I for one am glad they lost to the Devils. I would hate to get a lower pick than they. |

No... Briere is still wrong.. They are not just patient. They are agressive in forecheck as well.
But this is not players' task to realize it... |

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings:Typical Loss to NJ, Young D, HB Reader at Maccabiah - bmeltzer
Bill, do you think the fact it was their 4th game in 6 nights had something to do with the result. Timonen looked spent at times last night and Briere really faded as the game went on. I know it's not an excuse by any means, but I do think it at least had some effect
Secondly, could the team have been perhaps slightly demoralized with Bryz starting last night? Not so much because they have a problem with Bryz, but rather because Mason played so well in bailing them out against the Rangers, especially in the 3rd period, and I just wonder if many players on the team may feel that his puck handling skills give them a better chance to win.

Jon Hodes, a fixture on the HockeyBuzz message boards under the Pelle Lindbergh-inspired handle "Hammarby31" will be competing in this summer's Maccabiah Games in Israel as part of the US Masters Hockey Team (age 40+). I wish him and the rest of the American team entry the best of success - bmeltzer

The Rangers have controlled the Flyers the last couple years, including sweeping the season series last year, while the Devils have gotten the better of the Flyers from the second half of last season onward.
In the post-lockout years preceding that time frame, the Flyers won their share of games against those clubs, including beating the Devils in the first round of the 2010 playoffs.

I didn't know, so I sat down and added it all up.
Homer teams vs. Rangers:
06-7: 1-5-0 (2 games against NYR in Clarke's tenure)
07-8: 3-3-2
08-9: 2-4-0
09-10: 3-3-0
10-11: 4-1-1
11-12: 0-6-0
12-13: 2-3-0
Total: 15-25-3
Homer teams vs. Devils:
06-7: 1-3-3 (1 game against NJD in Clarke's tenure)
07-8: 2-5-1
08-9: 3-1-2
09-10: 5-1-0 - Postseason: 4-1
10-11: 3-2-1
11-12: 3-2-1 - Postseason: 1-4
12-13: 1-4-0
Total: 18-18-8 / 5-5
Total against both: 33-43-11 / 5-5 |

I think Gus has earned his chance to be on the third pairing next year assuming he doesn't bomb in training camp. I thought I read where MAB was slowly starting to increase his physical activity. I'm rooting for the guy to get back and hopefully compete in training camp. |

40+ = Hammar time
*imagines Jon dancing MC Hammer style, but with goalie pads instead of parachute pants*
Having played in front of Jon myself (though we didn't figure it out until later), I am thrilled he has this opportunity.
Go get 'em! |

it would shock me, they're professional hockey players not the girls jv swimming team.
furthermore Bryzgalov played pretty well last night. Okay he sucks on the breakaway. Should he give up everytime they can't simply put the puck on net when they get an oddman rush? Should he quit because they can't generate more than 10 seconds of pressure on a shift? |

I think you misunderstood me, its my fault because I didn't express it well. I don't think they consciously gave up or let down due to Bryz being in net. Rather I think that on a subconscious level they may have sagged a bit since every guy in that locker room knows that Mason saved their bacon in the 3rd period against the Rangers. Its just human nature, not a lack of conscious effort. |
