Boyes is the player that can return this once proud franchise to its glory. You are a typical Islander fan under valuing such a great talent. Nino is a bust, we don't need him anyway with Boyes emergence as a true power foward. Lundvquist is the best goalie EVER to lace up skates. We have NO prospects worth a damn. The Islanders should just fold up there tents and move to KC screw Brooklyn if the don't sign Boyes. Look no further than any other team in the league to realize just how horrible and stupid Isles fans are. As far as I'm concerned it's Boyes or bust. That should be the Isles new slogan. Maybe I'll make a youtube video pushing this so the Isles will see it? I'll sell it to them. I can cast further than anyone else. - Cptmjl
Honestly, why the heck are we discussing Boyes? Jesus. Everyone needs to let it go. He was not the reason the Isles were run out of the arena last night. JT didn't get a f**king shot on goal all night. Nabby gave up a couple he should have stopped, especially the first one. Reasoner and Strait took terrible penalties. The entire team sucked on all levels last night. The Isles, not just Boyes, looked like they didn't even belong in the playoffs. Replacing Boyes (or Reasoner or Strait for that matter) isn't going to change the fact that the entire team was manhandled and toyed with all night.
You can replace Boyes with Nino or Strome or Lee or whoever else, it won't change anything. Until the entire team plays better, stays out of the penalty box, controls the puck and skates as if they too are a playoff caliber team, the Isles are going to keep getting run out of the building. |

he's a generational talent?? there 6th round pick is clearly ready to play next to Crosby after 5 games... but our AHL Prospects are question marks... just when i think you can possibly top yourself.. - NYI78
Our AHL prospects aren't question marks at all. Our NHL prospects (Bailey, Okposo, DiPietro, Etc.) aren't question marks either. They are all maturing into world class talent.
He's a 6th round pick. So what? Is the draft only one round?
It's obvious you have never watched the guy play. He is being groomed for Crosbys wing. Duper will be gone (FINALLY) at years end and McNeill will be in there. 100 points for him in 2014, no question about it. |

Meh, it was a heady play from a young player considering they knew Nabby had just taken one off the noggin. I wouldn't call it necesarrily lucky, but I will say no matter how accurate he is, he misses that shot 8 out of 10 times. It was a miniscule area to shoot at with a dman on his hip. Ray Bourque isn't hitting that shot more often than not.
I consider that goal on two people, Reasoner and Nabby. First off, Reasoner was on Bennets heels above the faceoff circle and completely stopped skating leaving it as a one on one opportunity. That was a terrible mistake since he didn't even try to cut accross to take out the center. Second, NO goalie should give up a shot like that. Nabby made himself small in net by going to a knee and hugging the post, it was rather DP like. I would have rather he came out a bit and completely eliminated the angle while showing a little trust in his defense to clog the slot.
The game certainly wasn't on Nabby by any means since we were completely run over, but his performance was far below playoff expectations. Despite the one goal given up, Poulin was solid last night for a complete hasbeen - keaner17
Agreed.
If I was an Islander fan, I'd be annoyed at Strait for taking a dumb penalty at that stage in the game away from the play.
and you are right, for you guys to have a chance, Nabby frankly is going to have to stand on his head. He can't be simply OK.
Poulin allowed that lousy goal to glass, but I thought he made some nice saves that kept it from being even worse.

Boyes is the reason we lost. And the refs of course. Terrible coaching too. Strome would have had 3, Nino 2 and Nelson would have won it in OT. But of course they weren't in. Poulin plays the whole game and we at least have a chance.

I can't even comment on this. It's so insane that it shouldn't even be on this board. It's obvious you know nothing about the game and never watch. |

while I'm hoping (perhaps against hope) that we can make a series of this, I considered last nights performance a distinct possiblity given our coaches inability to prepare his players and the teams inexperience. Although I'd still contend that playoff experience isn't a huge deal, I would say that this game was a major learning experience for the Isles. You could clearly see that they became shell shocked by the intensity of the game and once the third goal was scored they glazed over.
I expect a far different performance tomorrow night since they should come out pissed and at least ready to establish a physical presence.
If I'm Cappy, I'd yank Aucoin, Reasoner and Strait for Nelson (yep first game), Joensuu and Carkner or Martinek. I like Raddy's defensive game but we need some physicality so I'd probably give Carkner a look. We need at least one big center on this team so Nelson fits the bill. We need Joensuu's size and forechecking as well. I'd also drop either Moulson or Boyes off the first line and find someone with a little speed to move up (Grabs?). Preferably I'd scrap that line all together and put Grabs and Joensuu up front while allowing the Martin/Cizikas/McDonald line to reappear. The only negative, that would leave Boyes and Moulson to play with an inexperienced Nelson, but I'll take that chance.
Cappy is one of the worst coaches I've seen in recent memory when it comes to personnel decisions, whether that be lineupes or line combos so I don't expect him to make many changes other than perhaps Carkner and Joensuu getting inserted. |

When you're playing a team that's more skilled, I think you need to stick to a responsible system and play a smarter game than they do. Plenty examples last night of players running around into areas they really weren't supposed to be and not doing simple things when they were in the right spots. You don't need to be Shea Weber to slap the puck toward the boards when it's in front of your net instead of tapping it into the high slot to their point men... |

I agree with everything you said but I'd like to add that the refs are a huge reason why we lost.
I'd also take the 8 prospects that were called up and put them all in the lineup. Can't hurt. They have all proven that they are ready so why not do it.

I guess you don't watch games. Boyes is terrible. Strome, Nino and Nelson need to be in the lineup in game 2. They should actually be our first line. Poulin must start as well. Fire Cappy now, Weight is the new coach. If that's done before game 2, the series will go to the Isles in 5. |

good morning. Wow the Islanders made my mind up for me last night that was umm well YIKES!!!
Anyway I have a few beefs about last night. Reasoner should never EVER see the ice again took a real dumb penalty to have the Islanders go down by two and then at the end of the game Really???
JAck Capuano proved to me last night that he is a deer in headlights. How you don't call a timeout after getting totally dominated is beyond me. He looked lost behind the bench and just stood there.
After last night I don't know how the Islanders can even try to get back. Bad Goaltending, bad coaching, they were not ready for this. If I am the Pens I would just bring up as many guys from the AHL and rest the team for the series since the Islanders are so over matched |

I don't see how it's funny. If you watch the games it would be obvious. Strome is generational talent. Nino loves it here. Nelson is proven. Poulin has Vesna written all over him. They need to be in the lineup for game 2 if the team is serious about winning. |

(serious post)
A timeout, or even better, send Martin out there after the second goal and just say "find a guy in black, drop your glove, and start throwing punches".
The game was a disaster but I expected that. What bothered me more than anything was that there was no effort made to change the momentum. A timeout could have been called like you said but the tapes from last year show that dropping the gloves could throw the Pens off their game (Flyers Series) so why not do it. |

McNeill played 5 games in the AHL. He's ready.
Maybe he played 2 games. What's the difference. During those two games he was being groomed to be Crosbys wing. Duper is a fill in. He's done. McNeill is proven to be the guy. |
