I guess you don't watch games. Boyes is terrible. Strome, Nino and Nelson need to be in the lineup in game 2. They should actually be our first line. Poulin must start as well. Fire Cappy now, Weight is the new coach. If that's done before game 2, the series will go to the Isles in 5. - kencan98
must be another slow day at work, eh? |

I beg to differ sir. This Pens roster is going to look drastically different over the next few seasons. Have to re-sign Letang, Malkin and Fleury next summer and with the exception of Jokinen, all of the players they acquired at the deadline will likely not be there next season.
Yes, they won't completely dismantle but this Pens team will not be the same at the start of next season. - MidnightMarauder
MAF is signed for 2 more full seasons, and I'd be stunned if they don't sign Malkin. Letang is the one who is going to be due a huge raise, and he'll probably walk which will be a huge loss for sure. Fortunately, the Pens are loaded with puck moving defensemen in the system. Iginla will sign elsewhere as they can't afford him, but Bennett will slide into his spot. Don't be stunned if Kennedy is allowed to walk, and if Morrow stays for less in a 3rd line role. |

(serious post)
A timeout, or even better, send Martin out there after the second goal and just say "find a guy in black, drop your glove, and start throwing punches".
The game was a disaster but I expected that. What bothered me more than anything was that there was no effort made to change the momentum. A timeout could have been called like you said but the tapes from last year show that dropping the gloves could throw the Pens off their game (Flyers Series) so why not do it. - kencan98

If Iginla doesn't come back, the cap is not even an issue. If he does....then it might be different. - cygnus41
You have over $56 million committed to the salary cap next year already with a cap of $64 mil...
You still have:
Cooke, Murray, Adams, Dupuis Morrow and Iginla left to sign. So it's a given (IMO) that Iginla MUST walk, as well as Morrow. Dupuis will likely command $4 mil alone and Cooke will look for a similar deal give or take a small amount. Then you have Kunitz, Malkin, Sutter, Orpik, Latang, Niskanen and Jokinen all in need of extensions through the folllowing season. That's tough sledding. |

He was arguably one of the most underrated defensemen that ever played...zero flash to his game and not terribly physical...but steady, steady, steady, great positionally, great passer, great hockey sense. - Emperor Filonius

Oh, I'm sure they'll still be a top 10 team in the league no matter what, but going into next season only $8 mil below the floor with a couple of key pieces yet to be signed suggests that some decisions will have to be made, which of course likely means tougher ones to follow the next year. |

I'm going to try and make this my last post on the subject but Capuano is a (frank)ing moron - Cptmjl
Yup. 1000%. And the guy who hired him is equally at fault because i dont believe for one second that Cappy has autonomy of the players who dress or even the tie that he wears on gamenight. Garth is a puppet master and we all got to see just how brilliant he really isn't. The Penguins upgraded with Iginla at the deadline. The Islanders welcomed back Joennsu from injury and activated him. (No fault or knock on Jesse- he had to suffer like the rest of us watching) our only hope for reasoner is shanahan reviews his penalty and hands down a 50 game suspension. If things continue like this, i hope the #15 pick is a good one. |

I think letting Letang walk is an awful idea. Despres is a good prospect, but Letang is a Norris-caliber defenseman. I think they'd be better off trading Malkin for a top-flight winger (Benn, Ryan, etc.) and some high picks. Just better balance, assuming Crosby is healthy. |
