Facts dont have to be logical, and logical is not always facts.

My dog has an entire yard to poop in, yet he still poops on the pavement. That is fact, and illogical.

get the #2 pick and draft Nate then trade B Schenn for a D man
- vejim

Or trade Couturier to Phoenix for Rundblad or Yandle. Another match made in heaven. That is where Couturier's father played hockey and where he was born. At least until the franchise moves to Seattle or Quebec.

While we are at it, Ryan can come back to the Philly area.

We are not trading both Coots and Schenn, and I doubt we would trade Schenn while his brother is playing so well.

I might consider a Couts for Rundblad and a 2nd. Trade Coburn and Pho2 and Phi 2 for Dallas's first. Pick Nurse and Shinkaruk. Resign Hall.

You think Luke would go into some sort of deep depression and forget how to play defense if his brother is traded?

That could be debated since they did lead us to a cup, and then were part of a team winning the cup. Maybe not as leadership, but its debaitable... But I agree the sum of the parts we got were a win. In hindsight though would you have taken Hamiton over Couturier right now?
- youarewrong

Would I like to have Hamilton more than Coots right now? Well in all honesty, I'd rather have Hamilton than Brayden Schenn. As awesome as having the 2 brothers is, and as good for the team having a brother pair will be in the long term, I think Couts will bring a similar offensive upside to Schenn, but a much better defensive upside. At this point though, yes, I would've rather we had gotten Hamilton than 1 of our young centers. But again, hindsight is 20/20. I think the way we go from here is to try to get Gardiner, while keeping Coots and Schenn, which is easily possible, as Toronto doesn't like Gardiner. Down the line, Gardiner and Schenn could be very compatible D men to play on the same pair, their styles compliment each other very well.

Something like that. Confidence of playing with your brother... anger at the team for trading him... take your pick. If Schenn and Couts have similiar potential and similiar skill sets, why trade Schenn over couts?

I'm very sold on picking Nichushkin if he drops, and Pulock. I wouldn't mind getting Rundblad, but he isn't NHL proven, as many people here have argued against me on about Rielly, Infact, unlike Morgan Reilly, who I suggested as a possibility, Rundblad has come up for a couple of stints in the NHL and was generally unimpressive both times. If we're going for unproven players, choose Rielly, his potential is much higher. I imagine we might still be able to get a 3rd or 2nd from toronto as well, as they apparently need centers pretty badly, and Coots is proven, while Rielly is a gamble. Potential-wise the 2 are actually quite even.

They have similar potential, but coots is much more defensive, schenn alittle more offensive.

I would say that I would rather Hamilton more then Couturier too, thus why I dont think BPA is the best idea. You can talk about getting the better player, and a plus to having orginizational depth you can trade from, but in reality you won't get the value back in a trade. Could you trade Couturier straight up for Hamilton right now? No. If the Flyers would have taken an orginizational need instead of a player that fell, they wouldn't need to try and swing a trade for an offensive d-man right now.

My question is, where did you hear Gardiner was not liked by Toronto?

I would not trade coots for him, but I'd look into Rundblad. Though were the Flyers to draft another Center like Monahan, I'd totally put Coots together with Meszaros in a deal for Yandle.

Edit: Strike that, that's a stupid deal. Meszaros had a injury filled year, and could'nt workout for 75% of it. I'd stand pat.

It didn't seem to affect Jimmy Watson, Ron Sutter, Kimmo Timonen, when their brothers were traded by the Flyers. But you never know.

Not sure I'd trade either Coots or BSchenn unless I was given an offer I couldn't refuse.

But we have more need for an offensive center because Briere is getting amnestied. The defensive role can be filled by Laughton, Cousins, of a number of cheap UFA options. IMO Schenn will make the better Number 2 Center. Couts makes a better Number 3 center.

True, but at this point, any decent youngish offensive defenseman would be an offer I couldn't refuse....

I don't think we'd have to give them Coots and Mez for Yandle Plus, while Yandle is younger, he's still a midage player. I think we need to preserve our youth core, by making sure that if Coots is dealt, he is dealt for someone of a similar age , potential, and preferably stage of development. This list includes Dougie Hamilton, Justin Shultz, Ryan Murray, Jonas Brodin, Oscar Klefbom, Morgan Rielly, Jake Gardiner, Brandon Gormley, Nathan Beaulieu, Simon Despres, Mathew Dumba, and many more. By listing these players, I'm not saying ANY of them are necessarily the right guy. Many of them are still unproven at an NHL level. I'm not saying all of them are even obtainable (Brodin, Hamilton, Murray, and Shultz are all more than likely future defensive cornerstones of their organization), and I'm not saying that any of them could be traded in a single player swap with Coots. Not all of them SHOULD be traded in a 1 for 1 swap with Coots. Coots is a better prospect than many of them. I'm saying these are possibilities, and if I'm a responsible GM who understands his defensive situation, I'm looking into possibilities for acquiring any of the guys and a ton more ontop of them. Luckily Homer is, indeed, a responsible, intelligent, and very creative GM. Whatever he does this off season, know it was most likely the right decision for the team.

The Flyers would not hesitate for one second to trade Brayden Schenn if they felt the deal would improve the team, because his brother is on the team.
