source?
and how is barkov gonna play on our 3rd line next year when he has to fulfill miltary duty?
kinda missed the boat on that one hey..?
which leads me to the obvious conclusion that the rumour is total bs due to much of your reasoning involoving barkov being ready to step right in. not surprising of course, but still funny.
but if they in fact did want picks or prospects, id be down to do it. and fine with another year or two of development.
however, nashville seems like a good fit for barkov for lots of reasons and type of organization that wont let him slip through their fingers

I think we could even do paajarvi and not lose a step if we find a replacement in the ufa market IMO. If we can get bickell or stalberg then we can sweeten the pot with paajarvi. This is te year to help build down the middle and get our big centre man. I have high doubts on gagner long term and doubt we will get one via trade.
I would prefer to do a trade where we overpay with picks.
Edit: unfortunately ufa comes after the draft but if they have the inside track on a player
Pick up Mark Streit UFA
Pick up Viktor Stalberg UFA
Pick up Matt Cooke UFA
Package deal of 2013 1st round, Martin Gernat, Ryan Jones for Jonathon Bernier and Slava Voynov

That's why I'm hoping Mac t is pumping gagners tires for trade value. - ystoil
You're at the same point the Canucks are, in that it's time to trade a valuable asset/core player to improve. Jordan Eberle and a 1st rounder would get you a top six center IMO. Much like the Canucks need to trade a combination of or at the very least one of, Edler, Kesler or Schneider.

I'd like to think in terms of value, gagner and the 7th should get you a good top 6 centre we need. Thing is, I don't know any teams that need him.
I'm a bit scared of trading eberle as his hands and hockey iq are elite.
My preference is trade gagner or overpay with picks to get barkov. And pick up some guys with size in the ufa market such as Horton.
Edit: I should mention that I'd be willin to move eberle and the first for the righ centre.

That top six will get you another 7th overall pick in the new Division next year. - LeftCoaster
agreed. that team isnt really any tougher to play against. has abit more offensive skill, but thats it.
streit could help, but we'd need to add a big bruiser defensive type guy too.
the same could be said for adding voynov.
bickell would be much better for us than stalberg too

eberle and our 7th overall would only get us a 2nd line center?!!!
we'll keep him then.
we dont need to move any of those kids to get better either.
and we're nothing like the canucks.
you had your kicks at the can with that core. u didnt deal them away mid run. or even worse, before they even had a go!
we havent had our run yet. let us do that, and then we might be comparable if it fails and we need to retool.

If you keep wanting to acquire unproven prospects to get you to the next level, you're never going to get there. You need a proven top six center now, you're young guys are ready to compete now.

gagner is certainly proven. he was on pace for 65.
and if you're suggesting trading the nuge..
would i rather size in gags' spot? hell yeah. but id rather try and fill the size on the wing where we actually have the hole.
unless its an absolute slam dunk, why deal to fill one hole, and create another?
1) Finns are required to fulfill their military duty before the age of thirty and it lasts 6 months. This means Barkov doesn't have to complete his military duty right away.
2) Nashville will probably hold onto their pick unless someone offers something big for that pick. All things indicate they are keen on Barkov. He fills a huge hole now, and in the future, for a center spot, literally and metaphorically. They have plenty of experienced centers that they can rely on but Barkov would provide a center with some serious potential to put the puck in the back of the net.
Barkov would be great with their new acquisition, Filip Forsberg, who has a great shot and can make room for himself. Barkov, who has great vision, passing, and hands would be a great setup man.
3) Edmonton has a lot of young, talented, forwards who can put the puck in the net. Monahan would be a great acquisition, especially because he is so defensively responsible. Barkov is too but with all of the scoring forwards in Edmonton, they are going to have a hard time signing all of those players and Barkov, who can put the puck in the net as well, and stay under the salary cap. Monahan might be a cheaper version of Barkov and, for that reason, a more attractive option. Monahan is also a leader for every team he plays with so he will be able to replace Horcoff when he leaves.

I didn't mean trade gagner for barkov. I mean trade gagner for proven talent and/or trade picks to acquire barkov.

a team is obviously gonna want him to fulfill his obligations asap while he might not be ready anyway. or at the very least isnt as 'seasoned' as he will be later.
and certainly not when he's 26 and entering his prime in the middle of a massive contract.
just sayin..
i see your point about the cheaper option in monahan that still fills a hole, but its not like we cant trade someone away if we cant afford to keep them. barkov'd be a valuable asset in a move if he did in fact meet expectations. not only that, but if he did (big 2 way scoring center) we'd prob rather move one of the wingers than him.
its just ine more body to go along with the outsiders sayin "u wont be able to afford all your kids".
while it certainly isnt true yet and we wont know for at least a couple years depending on what they deserve, the cap etc, it may in fact be true later.
that said; having too many good young players is a great problem to have. not a bad one.
Silly question when r the oilers gonna draft a legit top 2 or 4 defenceman every other team has in the last few years some have worked out others haven't can't draft fowards every year gets u no where in the long run I don't understand why u guys
don't trade up for Seth jones best defenceman available .

colorado wouldnt trade that pick.
we probably couldnt afford what they ask even they would.
we havent had the opportunity to draft one if you mean with our first overalls. and dont make us start getting out the numbers etc etc.
hall was the right pick. the nuge was the right pick as was yakupov.
we have far more quality d prospects already than we do offensive ones.
me might already have a top pairing guy in klefbom. that we drafted.
we still might take a dman in this draft.

I'm sick of answering this one. Please everyone read this:
We have potential top 4 dmen coming. Klefbom and marincin particularly. If we draft one now, they won't be a top 4 for another 3 or 4 years. If they aren't the best available we won't draft for need. We need a big centre as much as a dman. It's smarter to trade for a dman then draft one now using that pick.
Why would we pick fowler, larsson and Murray over our last three picks? They weren't consensus best picks.

That point is valid but this point in time is arguably the most important as far as development. If a player were to complete the service in the offseason and part of the early regular season in his early-mid twenties he would only miss part of the season.

Why do all you left coasters think the top 6 will not improve year over year with age and maturity.
If the bottom 6 would have pitched in just a little bit last year and taken some pressure off the top enough more wins could have been had to secure a play off spot.
and if Whitney wouldnt have sucked so much and pouted about it of coarse
