Well done, Pete.
That's the ongoing debate with Byfuglien, conditioning, consistency, holes in his game versus the prodigious and unique talent he has and how difficult he is to play against because of that.
When (not if) the Jets are a playoff team, the Schenns will not give you what Byfuglien will. Not even remotely close. Chevy should be well aware of that.

From the other side.....burmi, as you call him, has done squat to this point in his career . Big Buff is getting bigger by the minute....add in Pat's and Geno's and this kid could morph from a offensive defencemen into a offensive lineman!!!!!
Beyond what, many think or print, Luke Schenn settled in nicely in Philly after being forced to play to many minutes with a beat up d corp.....Brayden showed signs of finding his game and although hasn't quite got there yet will make a very good # 2 C, for years to come.....they didn't trade Mike Richards to give up on Schenn two years later.
Not for a spoiled Russian with a bad attitude or a fat overrated defenceman who although talented plays when he wants to play.....so I agree this deal shouldn't happen. |

Good point- how does Philly change/improve by giving up on B Schenn for Burmistov?
It makes no sense the same way Byfuglien for L Schenn does.
From a Jets perspective as JJ above points out- buff may be the only player on the team with that elusive 'x-factor' aside from Kane who is still developing it.
They need that kind of return in a deal- something that adds to the team in the same way they lose it with Buff. |

I didn't even get into the "character" issue....stats are great , but we all know that only tells part of the story with a player....but one of the biggest Flyer issue centers around their franchise goalie and his character issues.....Big Buff and Burmistrov come with that question mark......hopefully someone else takes a chance on those two......I still don't like the Mike Richards deal....never will, unless B. Schenn explodes into. # 1 C.
I don't think Flyers are in a position to roll the dice on these two.
.....and if I'm WPG....I never move Kane....he has a shot to "mature" into another Jerome Iginlia type guy....mature being the key word. |

An interesting deal, but one that would be at best a sideways move for both teams.
After this deal, jets have a hole on D they can't easily fill, and the flyers have no 2LC, because god knows they have to buy out Briere.
I think to get this deal done, the Jets have to add a more proven roster player than Burmi, and Philly has to send back a prospect. |

If Burmistrov wants out of Winnipeg, why would he want to come to Edmonton? Just stating the obvious. Also, do we really want a headcase in our locker room? I though that was what MacT was trying to get rid of. As an Oiler fan, I'd say no to that. |

I don't think there is a character issue with Buff- never, ever hear of one. Loved by teammates. Burmi is liked but needs maturity and to allow himself to be coached.
No 'character issues' with these two as some would expect it to mean. |

We are worse with that trade.
I wouldn't question burmistrov as a head case. At the draft Mackenzie was raving at how great a personality he is. Can't be perfect all of the time. Has Turris affected Ottawa? I'd say he's thrived. He was rushed and misused by Noel.
I'd inquire on burmistrov but wouldn't give a crazy amount up. |

I get what your saying about Burmi, but is Luke Schenn really that much of a different case? He is a tad better in terms of what he has done, but he also has a big money contract.
Good offer and blog Pete |

I wouldn't do this deal if I'm the Jets. The get slightly better now, propably worse in 3 yrs and pick up Gagner at close to 5 mill and Smid at 3.5. |

I'd do that trade in a minute. Corsi doesn't mean poop when you are putting people with different line mates, different systems. Different environments. |

You know it's a fair trade when each side denegrates the skills of the players on the other team thereby saying it's not enough coming back.
Dead giveaway! |

i kind of agree that it seems like a strange one from both sides. like i really don't see why burmistrov or luke are even included
if there's anything to this rumor at all, it would be a brayden for buff type thing. and i can see how each side would have objections to that |

No thanks to either, a fatass who's questionable in his own end is the last thing the flyers need. The goal is to try and get better defensively, not worse. |

People seem to under value B. Schenn at this point in his career. He is doing everything right and the points will come. He is physical, plays two way hockey and has offensive upside. Just give him time and you will forget all about M. Richards. Schenn should not be going anywhere from a flyers fan point of view. |

Jets lose if they make this trade. Luke Schenn is a hulking waste of space on the ice, he was big part of the problem with PHI defense. Byfuglien is a consistent 40 point producer, he's not your Type A #1 D, but neither is Schenn. I would rather much have Byfuglien back on D than Schenn. Schenn is Byfuglien without the scoring ability.
Philly would take this deal right away, they can easily replace B.Schenn with Couturier and drop Burmistrov to the 3C slot where he belongs. |

That statement shows how little you saw of the flyers this year. Schenn was the only reason that defense wasn't the absolute worse in the league. He was solid all year around with a few exceptions here and there. Most flyers fans were just thankful they were able to get him or else the defense would have been an even bigger joke then it was.
