Personally if it was me & I wanted to be spiteful... Id let them trade me, find out from the other team that they were going to buy me out... tell them to hold out till the end of camp & ill retire.
Isles would lose whatever they traded & still be on the hook for the contract.

Something to talk about. From the Leafs blog.

HNIC’s Elliotte Friedman reported on Saturday’s “Hotstove Tonight” that New York has communicated to other NHL clubs that they would be willing to give assets to someone if they were willing to take Dipietro’s contract in a trade.

Dipietro is under contract until 2020-21 at a $4.5 Million annual salary and if bought out this summer, it would cost Isles owner Charles Wang $24 Million over the next 16 seasons, but if New York were willing to give something of value to make the Dipietro problem go away, like ’11 top pick and Mississauga native Ryan Strome or 2012 first rounder Griffin Reinhart for example, would it not be worth the cost to a team with deep pockets like the Leafs to make that kind of move to bring in a potential building block that has not even reached the age of 20???

Nor should you but I bet there are about fifty thousand Leafs fans buying Strome jerseys as we speak. I'm shocked there is only one in here today? Just finished with the Vancouver fans and now this

Fact, The Isles are trying to get rid of DP & his contract

Speculation/Dreaming that the 1st, Strome or Reinhart have been offered

Garth would then officially be the dumbest/worst GM in the league. Wang made his bed. He can now lay in it. To GIVE away prospects just to eliminate some $$$ off your bottom line is a wuss move. Garth should be/should have been packaging guys like Ness, deHaan, Kichton, Dibenidetto, Joensuu, Haley, Thompson for SOMETHING before they all left or became damaged goods or became apparent they would not reach their ceiling of potential. What this guys spends him time doing, other than getting hard over the likes of Brad Boyes'-type players and other league re-treads is anyone's guess.

But you can't argue that he STILL hasn't proven he can make a trade of ANY impact OR significance in 5 going on 6 years(or is it 6 going on 7?). We have a new arena only one year (probably) away. The excuses have dried up and are no longer valid. Sadly, we will see this summer and next fall just how truly inept Garth is as a GM. I'll say it again till Im blue in the face...Garth should be Head Scout. He has an eye for talent but he can't trade for poope! (love the new substitute word for sh!te)

Fine,

Hey this stirred up more talk than Dee's blog.

- bixll

Not trying to crap on you for posting it at all. Just saying that Friedman has no real substance to that thought. It's just posing a question basically. But so many will take it like he said "a source told me it's likely to happen".

Yep. You'd want strome and if you got him the islanders would lose half their fanbase with that trade. It would be PR suicide for the team.

Exactly!! You facked up wang and if you want to get rid of him then bite the bullet admit your mistake and buy him out.

He hasn't had to trade anyone, just because we would like a trade, doesn't mean he has to make one.. but just because he hasn't, doesn't mean he lacks the ability.

Absolutely correct, it'll happen eventually. What choice will he have? He's not doing any of this shat our friends from north of the border would love to believe. Why would he? We are moving to Brooklyn after next season which we all know is going to be lucrative, our team took a BIG step last season. These prospects come on the cheap(as far as NHL contracts go) and we pay them beans for years before they make a real NHL salary. The Luongo scenario is more believable except of course the Nino DP, Strome DP, or my favorite the Nino+Strome+DP for Luongo rumors these guys were throwing around. None of this shat is happening. Reminds me of when Tavares was 100% not going to accept being drafted by the Isles and was going to pull a Lindros. It's just the Canadian press doing what they do best. IDK they must have 20 NY Posts like papers up there or something? As far as the Canadian press is concerned bcs Wang is losing money we should just give away everything we have built in the last 6 years. Not happening and if it does I'll take out RDP myself. Signed

Lubo for a 2nd rounder...pretty good deal.
Although he left, the Smyth trade was a significant or 'impactful' deal.
James Wisniewski for a third...

I would say all three of those deals were 'impact' trades at the time, though Wiz turned out to be a jerk that we got rid of FAST.

Tough to grade a guy on his *trade* history when this franchise had literally NOTHING to trade for his first 3 years or so.

We buy him out or a more believable scenario is the Luongo trade(why am I doing this)but not for what their fanbase thinks they'll be getting. As of now we need his salary just to reach the floor.

Hysterical the other day when one of them said, "I guess at this point we'd have to accept a trade of Nino and DP". Like he was expecting more
