nutter brother, i have to disagree about the goalies. mason's coming off of 4 bad yrs in a row - that's a lot- and pairing him w/ a guy like bryz who would be in a make-or-break situation is no favor. having 2 younger guys splitting time until one emerges while allowing a young core to grow makes a lot of sense to me. bernier has more pedigree than practically any guy we could bring in. - isaiah520
Its cool if we differ.
Mason struggled but I really think he had no help in Columbus. The communication was lacking, the whole small pads thing, and I kind of hope he needed a change of scenery. Even still, he has some experience and an amazing year. The talent was evident when he came over, I think its mainly between the kids head.
I would rather support him with a mentor type, and give him a real shot. Instead of bringing in another young kid, creating competition and giving him no veteran mentor. Not to mention that Bernier has very little experience, and what he does have is behind a stacked d-first system in LA.
To me, young goaltenders with "potential" are always available.
I would rather just give Mason a proper shot with a mentor type, and not having two kids looking over their shoulder after every mistake they make.
I wanted Bryzgalov gone ever since he had to open his mouth again this season when the inconsistenct game also started to creep back in. I'd really prefer they try for Luongo if he is bought out first. If he is not available go after Backstrom or Emery. If they are looking at a trade route I'd prefer Hiller. |

They didn't trade for Masons rights. He was signed and played under his existing contract.
Yes, a signed Bryz would have cost more. But he was also a lot more proven than Bernier. - Jsaquella
okay yeah he played a whopping 7 (9?) games in the Flyers uni. |

Laughton's development eases the pain of trading a Schenn or Coots for blueline help. He's not a lock for opening night, but he would have to play absolutely awful not to be there opening night in my opinion. - ravishingone
He'd need to lay a massive egg in camp not to make it....or have some weird ass Brayden Schenn bonus stuff going on |

It still wasn't a trade for rights. It was a trade for a player they intended to re-sign. If they trade for Bernier, it'd be a trade for his rights. |

I'm kind of with you here.
Unless they can make a really good deal for Edler, Giordano, Shattenkirk, or Yandle I'd stand pat.
Either way the guy I would be shopping first is Hartnell.
Keep that young core together, this team is a few years out. Build it proper, build it right. |

If I can just say though.
Gut feelings say that they make a deal involving Coots for Buff in Winnipeg.
I pray not, but I just kind of have a feeling. |

It's going to be interesting to see the trade market for Bernier. The UFA goalie market the last couple of years has been a buyer's markets. Teams that have a young goalie usually sign them before they hit free agency (Howard and Quick).
However, Bishop got a very good return, not sure what to think. |

I've seen Bogosian thrown around, and I'd really like them to stay away.
Injury history, not the fastest guy, and questionable defensively. I see him as a little more offensively gifted Coburn. - flyer_nutter
i see him as a guy who's just starting to emerge. def more upside than coby, but he must stay healthy. |

Exactly.
A young goalie that excels in a d-first system with limited experience. Traded for Conacher, a guy pretty similar to Read.
Holmgren should take notes. |

All star Mark Scheifele haha. Had himself a good year, but he's a guy that will get wussy slapped in the NHL.
The only guy I'd be trading for on that team is:

A deal like that...that one would truly test me, as a fan. That one would truly test me beyond all previous levels of frustration with this franchise. |

bernier and mason are both kids w/ exp, so it's not like they're that green, but i get preferring a guy like backstrom or a post-CBO Lu.

The last two free agency periods for goaltenders has been very soft. The Flyers unfortunately bid against themselves with Bryz.
If Bryz is bought out, I believe they can get a very good FA goalie to tandem with Mason for the price of Bryz's former cap hit or maybe even a little less.

I like buff - a lot. big dude, great skater, huge rh shot. guy gets 50+ points a season in his sleep and on a bad team his +/- is not that bad. besides giroux and stammer... buff is probably the most exciting player i watch. he is an enigma... especially how well he can skate with the puck at his size. Hawks fans always lament the fact he was traded. I follow jaeckel's thread and they always bring him back up in a positive light. take it for what its worth. I think coots will be a great player but as fans i think we way over value him based on one great series against malkin. he's only 20 so maybe i'm wrong. |
