"Personally, I would have preferred the Flyers acquire a younger and cheaper puck-mover even if the player wasn't as accomplished offensively as Streit's bankable 45 to 55 points per season. "
whos available like that? - TrentKlatt
Clitsome for one. A role-playing D but then you pay a role-player price instead of a premium. They could also stay in-house see what Gustafsson can do over a full season.

find a place where i signed off on those deals...they are terrible. granted. but to resort to that is childish and not really relevant
having said that, the isles have plenty of cap space so yashin/dp contract isnt an issue.
im here to talk hockey and mark streit... if i were a flyers fan, knowing what i know about streit, hes aging quickly and his knees have been barking. as an islanders fan, i was thrilled when they said he wont be resigned. - LetsGoIsles
You're on here trolling (yes, you are) the Flyers for making a terrible move. I'm pointing out that the Isles have a long history of terrible moves. Don't thinkt hat's childish. Just talking about similar terrible moves made over the years. |

im not trolling...and im being dead serious
i would have been pissed if the islanders signed him for 1 year at the league minimum. the flyers are a physical and aggressive team...streit isnt at all - LetsGoIsles
The Flyers being an aggressive team is accurate. Streit's mobility and passing ability will help there. They didn't replace Matt Carle's skill set and tried to shoe horn players not as adept at those skills as Carle. Streit will replace those skills and then some.
As for the Flyers being physical? I mean, compared to who? Washington? These haven't been the "Broad Street Bullies" for a while now.
They have players who play physically, who excel in that role (Hartnell, Simmonds, Rinaldo), but the Flyers' skill guys aren't necessarily physical. Brayden Schenn has a physical aspect to his game, but it's not his "go to" skill.
LSchenn and Grossmann are the two most physical defensemen on the team.....they aren't exactly Pronger and Scott Stevens in their prime, but capable physical defensemen.
I just don't think I would describe the Flyers are being an overly physical team such that Streit wouldn't fit in. |

Since they're so "physical and aggressive" it means that Streit doesn't have to fill that role. - jmatchett383
thats true. i just think youll be shocked by how soft defensively he is. |

He was the captain and I think most isles fans liked him. He's leaving with respect but its time for the Isles to move on and now JT must become captain. - NYI44
That makes sense to me, but this D issue had to be addressed for us somehow. |

meszaros would bring lowest return in a trade, but could do the most good for the flyers if healthy.
i keep him. - Don'tForgetTocchet
I have doubts about him staying healthy and I also have the least faith in him (among himself, Coburn and Grossmann) in tougher defensive matchups. His Barry Ashbee Trophy season came as the Flyers #5 defenseman, albeit a #5 who played 20 minutes a game. It was awful nice to be able to have five 20-minute D men in the lineup and O'Donnell as the #6. The team's GAA wasn't great but that was more due to Laviolette's style of play than the D personnel being insufficient.

That's an overstatement or you just streit up hated the guy. He was your captain, so he must have had some redeeming qualities to someone in the org. If he brings what he has before, signs a 3 yr 5.5 mil contract and stays healthy, I am ok with it. Way better than losing Cooter or Schenn or our first. - Hextall271
truth is i really didnt want him back, at least from an isles perspective, they have a few younger prospects ready/getting ready. im not sure what the flyers defensive prospects are all about so it may be a good deal for the flyers. from the years and money standpoint i dont see him lasting more than 2 years. either way, he still has to sign with the flyers so its all tbd. |

With (hopefully) signing Streit it means that a current D-man might be moved?
Or the organization has belief that Grossman or Meszaros are not really going to be healthy.
I just really like the move. Bringing in a vet puck mover, who will cost a good amount on the cap, but I would rather do that any day instead of giving up youth to bring a guy in.
This team is a few years out imo, and Streit is a stop gap. |

I think Gus is going to continue to improve. If he does take a big step, then great, but we had to sort out the puck moving issue on D IMHO. |

Its about the right pairing.
I would rather keep the youth on this team (Schenn and Coots), and sign Streit as a stopgap.
With someone like Grossman or Luke Schenn, Streit should match up well. |

Makes sense, but even they require something to give up - TrentKlatt
Yeah but if you could get one for them for like a 2nd and 3rd then that'll probably be better value than paying Streit out the wazoo. |

Very good skater, even NHL caliber, but doesn't have much game beyond that. He has shown a little bit of offensive ability at the AHL but is very streaky. Not great defensively, and got into Terry Murray's doghouse because of it. |

Hey Bill,
Speaking on Meszaro's health. IMO all his injuries were seperate and mostly Fluky much like JVRs last season. Do you think he will be healthy going into the season? If so, I keep him as Coburn can get you much more in a trade.

wikipedia says this "Shane Steven Harper[1] (born February 14, 1993) is an American actor, singer-songwriter, and dancer. He is best known for his recurring role as Spencer Walsh in the Disney Channel's teen sitcom Good Luck Charlie. His self-titled debut album was released on February 14, 2012." |

If you're lucky. He's an average AHL player. We signed him as an overage CHL player when we were trying to fill the gap in prospects from the Pronger trade. None of them really panned out. The Phantoms have been terrible and he can't really hold a spot with them. |

Ill wait to see the contract to get excited. I am happy homer is looking at all options instead of quickly trading away the e cellent youth kn this team. |
