Oilers blogger says Schenn for 7th overall + a player makes the Oilers a better team. Of course he wants Couturier more. - mayorofangrytown
There isn't a player on the Oilers that simultaneously fills a need on this team and is worth Schenn or Couturier. Nor is there a player available at #7 that fits both criteria. |

Good piece Bill. Schenn, to me, will be the x factor on offense. If he can produce 55+ points, the team will excel. If not, we'll be hearing the same things we heard last season. |

I don't think the talent drop off from 7th to 11th will be that great to justify trading up to that spot (unless a no-brainer deal comes along) and I swear, if he brings up Hemsky again... |

I think 55+ may be a little high as far as expectations are concerned. I think 20 goals and 25 assists while playing a solid physical game is more reasonable. Not that I think he can't bust out for 55+, but that's possibly setting the bar too high. |

I was thinking 7 & 11 might get you to 3 or 4 or maybe 1? Huh, huh ... 1? |

Brayden Schenn and Sean Couturier are both so young...21 years old for Schenn, 20 for Couturier. They're just kids in the NHL.
It's interesting. I don't really like Schenn on the wing, as I've said before. But it would be interesting, if he is better at playing the wing than I think -- and, again, I acknowledge I'm just another guy who watches games -- then maybe you avoid having to move Couturier and Schenn at all, if you can play them on the same line.
You know, it's funny. When Claude Giroux was drafted and came up, he was primarily a RW. Giroux's clearly tremendous at center.
But what if you did something funky like...
Hartnell-Couturier-Giroux
McGinn-Schenn-Voracek
Read-Laughton-Simmonds
Rosehill-Talbot-Rinaldo
OK. You do that, now you're getting down to business. Because you would know EXACTLY what Sean Couturier and Brayden Schenn's ceilings are AND you likely eliminate the need to overpay for a scoring winger.
Man. I'd do that for a half-season, just to see how that would go. |

The best thing the Flyers organization can do, with regard solely to the on-ice product, is to tune out the fanbase and make a slow rebuild happen this time.

Klefbom and Monahan/Lindholm?
And we still pick at 11. Ristolanen? |

That's what I thought. Apparently someone connected with the Oilers mentioned a 7th and a defenseman being packaged for a big center on the radio in Edmonton. If its the 7th and Jeff Petry and the Flyers then jump up to get Barkov or Drouin, it would definitely be intriguing. |

I'm not even sure it's the fanbase they have to tune out as much as Snider. |

Giroux could be a good winger but he's so good at center that they shouldn't move him back now. |

No but Nashville and Carolina both said they would be open to trading down as long as it wasn't too far. At 4 you are definitely getting one of Barkov or Drouin and there are rumors that Tampa loves Nichuchskin at 3. |

Barkov or Nichuskin somehow slip to 7th. Oilers want more immediate help. Do you trade Schenn straight up for either of them. You still have the 11th to trade D or BPA. That was the hypothetical of the blog. I probably still go for Barkov or Nichuskin if I were Edmonton tho. |

That would be the second-best thing -- if only because not listening could end in dismissal.
Homer needs to go all Les Grossman (1 N) on Snider:
"You're a great American. This organization owes you a huge debt. Now shut the Seravalli up and let me do my job!!" |

No way is Schenn worth a 7th pick especially 7th pick plus...Jeff Carter was traded for Voracek and 8th overall and Carter is/was 30-40 goal scorer.
