I don't believe that to be true. Holmgren may have thought that a deal was going to be easy to get done, and that Carle was willing to agree to a less then market deal. But I don't beleive that there was ever an agreed upon deal in place. Flyers left Carle hanging and wanted him to wait. Meanwhile TB jumped in and made their offer.
I'd be fine with that pairing. - MJL
Flyers couldn't sign him because of tagging rules.
Choose to believe what you want, but they had every intention of bringing him back. |

Do you guys think its too far out to think the Flyers could package Coburn, the 11th, and a 2nd for Carolina's pick to get Barkov or Nichushkin? Then use Laughton to get someone of Runblad ilk and let Meszaros walk too?
Timonen-Schenn
Grossmann-Streit
Gustefsson-Runblad/Gervais
Offense would be:
Hartnell-Giroux-Voracek
Read-Schenn-Simmonds
Gagne-Couturier-Barkov/Nichushkin
Raffl/McGinn/Rosehill-Talbot-Rinaldo - youarewrong
Yeah, I think both of those deals is unrealistic. I guess I'm not sure where Runblad is but I don't think he's NHL ready. Not sure you can get him for Laughton. |

Acquiring Streit's rights I have no problem with.
Signing Streit to a multi-year deal with a cap hit over $5M I do have a problem with.
My prediction: Holmgren gives him 3 yrs at $5.5M per.
Another bad 35+ contract. |

My only thought right now, is that if this deal is 4 years or so. Then they should've signed Carle last year. While Carle does not have the point shot, or isn't as dynamic offensively as Streit. Carle is every bit as good as a puck mover as Streit is, if not better. And Carle is easily superior to Streit defensively. As well as being considerably younger. And Carle is a better overall player. - MJL
They were probably counting on Mez not turning into a bonafide Philadelphia soft pretzel for the 2012-13 season. Seems their determined not to be fooled again |

If it's as much as three, I'm off the Homer bandwagon.
He's been on double secret probation with me ever since he tried to sell that he knew Pronger's contract was an over 35 contract when he offered it. |

Might as well just get off then, because it's gonna be at least 3 if not 4. |
