i would say that stat is useless because Jagr used to lead the league in giveaways not because he was bad but because he was always trying to make things happen on offense - 2Real
Makes sense. You tend to lose the puck more trying to do more things with it I suppose. |

Streit gives the Flyers a PP point shot that they were lacking. That other teams will have to respect. - MJL
I don't see him knocking Timonen off the top PP unit or Laviolette going with three forwards instead of four with Voracek as the other "point" guy in the umbrella. But it'd be an enviable choice between Streit or Timonen to play on the 1st/2nd units.

My guess is that they looked at a handful of younger guys, the price was Couturier + and they said (frank) it, get a Timonen "replacement" and we'll ride out the season. - Jsaquella
if there is a positive here, i think you probably nailed it. |

I think were on the same page here. Holmgren may have had preliminary talks and felt a deal could be made. But it's obvious that there was no agreed upon deal in place. Verbal or otherwise. Regardless, it really doesn't matter now. - MJL
If you admit there might have been a verbal deal that was agreed upon and then dismissed between Homer and Carle, I will agree there is an equal chance there was not one.
BTW this is a test to see how stubborn you really are. |

I think the thing with Carle is that his turnovers tended to be of the glaring kind...where he would only make one bad play a game, but based on the role he was playing, it usually ended up in a scoring chance or kept the Flyers pinned deep since a lot of his plays originated in the defensive zone trying to transition to forwards in the neutral zone.
I'd hope that Streit's turnovers are a result of him carrying the puck more often than Carle (so time with puck as opposed to TOI) and that most of them occur in the neutral zone as opposed to the defensive zone. - jmatchett383
Unless a defenseman is an extremely gifted offensive defenseman such as Erik Karlsson, you really don't want your defenseman carrying the puck a lot. You want them to move the puck quickly up to the Forwards as much as possible. And then move up ice as a 5 man unit, with defenseman coming late for offensive opportunities. Skate the puck when it is the only play available to relieve pressure. But if that is happening constantly, then there is a bigger issue. And defenseman carrying the puck too much leads to dump ins that lose possession, and odd man rushes against. Not preferable.

Why would I admit something in which there is no evidence to support? I provided the only factual evidence available. End of story as far as I'm concerned. Carle is TB. Streit is in Philly. I'd rather discuss Streit.

Even if he's bought out by the Rangers, he's still going to get a considerable UFA contract somewhere. If the cap were no object, then fine. But I just don't see a fit here. I COULD see him going back to Dallas, though.

This dude wants to be a Flyer. I'm sold! 6 mil per! NMC! Get er done Holmer! - Just5
Pretty smart of him to talk that way. Weber talked just like that when he signed here. Why ostracize the fans by saying, "I'd be dumb not to test the market."
But I believe Homer will pay better than market for a known quantity. That's what we do. And this guy is consistently solid. Not a world beater but consistent. [/img] |

I personally would see that as a mistake. If you make this deal, then why not play Streit on the top PP unit? He easily has the best shot from the point. And he's been one of the top PP point producers in the NHL for defenseman. It would be a mistake not to utilize his best assets, put him in the best spot for him to produce and succeed. And play him on the PP as much as possible. Laviolette should adjust to fit his personnel. That's my opinion anyway.

I think the best way to make the second unit better would be to put 2 defenseman out there so you can put Simmonds or Voracek on the 2nd unit. |

He's good on the PP. The one thing that will be extremely frustrating is when the puck barely goes over his stick and gets out of the zone. He is not good at keeping the puck in but other than that I liked him (for the most part) on the PP |
