Well, I can't possibly disagree with Dan Aykroyd

he gave up an ECHL player and a 4th round pick
WTF is wrong with that???
jeepers i dont get some of you... do you guys want to improve or not??
Shane (frank)ing Harper i can almost guarantee you was never gonna play an NHL game in his (frank)ing life for us
and a 4th round pick. how many 4th round picks amount to something in the past 2 decades? 2-3 players maybe?
Jesus i swear if he had traded Danny or Bryz Flyers fans would complain they didnt get enough in return - FLYERSROCK!
If they waited until July 5th, they could have just signed him and kept the pick.
It's not like he's gonna say, "Ya know, I really wanted 5 years and $20mm, but since you traded for me, I'll take 2 years for $4mm |

he is UFA, anyone can make him an offer
giving up any asset for "negotiating rights" is dumb
unless they already have a deal worked out, but that would be illegal I guess |

I know many are kind of upset.
However we have all been shown what the market is for good younger d-men, and it will probably cost 1 of Coots or Brayden Schenn.
I am really glad Holmgren chose to keep the youth together, and just be willing to go after a stop gap like Streit, who will really help the transition game on the back end.
To me, it seems to be a step in the right direction, of patience, and building through the draft.
If the Flyers sign Streit they already improved their D-core, while keep all available assets intact. - flyer_nutter
If I recall during the many conversations/arguments about addressing our defense situation since the season ended, you've been an advocate for the exact move Homer has made today (if we get Streit signed). I applaude you, because clearly the asking prices for Yandle, Edler, etc were too rich for Homer's liking (aka Couts/BSchenn).
I'd rather overpay in terms of the contract Streit gets, than in trading Couts or BSchenn in a trade. We only spend the cash, not assets and cash. |

He's the best UFA FA dman on the market. who says we offer him 5.5 over 3 and he takes it before he becomes a FA, but unknowingly someone else was prepared to offer 6M and 4 years if he hit FA? then what?
its nice to have a head start. We didnt give up anything valuable. The pick isnt even in this draft. |

Trading a pick for negotiating rights is not nearly as bad as giving out these no move/no trade deals.
If homer has to do something bad I guess trading for rights is OK as long as there are no more NTCs. |

I'd bet $20 that they have a deal worked out, and will announce it as soon as they do buy outs or trade a contract for a late round pick |

The best part of Streit's game isn't his PP ability, or puck moving, it's that he's a monster in his own end, and never, ever gets knocked off the puck.
He also hasn't missed a game in 3 years, so pencil in all 82 next season. Lock it up. |

Hamhuis wanted to play near his home in BC....Streit's Swiss...unless that is where the Coyotes are moving |

I hope to hell that this was done because there was no one else available.
If that Winnepeg guy with the funny name goes elsewhere for a reasonable contract...
whatever.
I'm just going to wait and see, no use worrying about it now.
It is way better news then hearing Buff for Couts/Schenn. |

In fairness, the Islanders haven't had the most stellar recent past. Not to mention a real wang of an owner...I mean Wong. |

D) mix in Streit with the 2nd unit, which has struggled at times to enhance the back end of the PP - Jsaquella
The only issue there is that he's going to get about half of the PP ice time that the top unit point men get. For a player who is a PP specialist. The first unit is always out for the key PP's in big moments in games. And a lot of times, the 2nd unit comes out with like 30 seconds left, and doesn't get good zone time.

Give the guy a chance. He will be overpaid. I get that. But he could actually improve the team. In fact its hard to see how he doesn't. |
