I'm used to things being filtered on this site so I don't even think about it. This site is funny like that.

No need to fill that money up already if you don't have a player you like. Just seems like they have some free money so they just spend it. Not a wise idea.

Stay patient.

Good luck when you have an 80 year old owner that likes shiny new things...

I don't disagree with you there. It's not like Streit is a bum. His strengths are Flyers weaknesses. Need help from the backend on the PP, as well as a guy that can move the puck. Those are the positives.

Negatives are age, in all probability term of contract, and while calling Steit a defensive liability might be harsh, he's average at best in his own end.

Kimmo and Mesz off the cap next year... Not to mention having another buyout after Briere.
- hereticpride

Yup. Still have to sign Couturier, Schenn, and Giroux.

I like Streit but not for $5m+ for possibly 4 years. I would pass on that deal.

Yes, the length is an issue...$5mm seems like the going price, though.

Just don't understand it. I would rather go with what we have. I like Streit if the price is right but the "rumor" demands on his contract are not positive.

Only way this would make more sense is if they buyout Briere and trade Mez. I wouldn't be opposed to the cap hit if its for three years max.

The thing is, they don't have much. I wouldn't count on getting anything from Meszaros, and the last reports on Grossmann do not sound very promising.

I think they kicked a lot of tires and everyone wanted Couturier +, and they simply said, screw it, Streit can "replace" Timonen next year and we can keep the kids.

It's probably not much more complicated than that.

I still wouldn't entirely put it past them to make another addition via trade at the draft though.

His current cap hit for his production is.
- jstross

His Cap hit has always been the same. He has been a quality player here, who raised his game when the games meant the most. He's also been a quality individual and teammate. To call him an albatross at any point is off base in my opinion. The time has come to move on. But the Briere signing in my opinion was a success.

Nothing recent. Last I read he was visiting concussion specialists in Pittsburgh, and was having vision issues.

I was just as surprised as all of us Homer pulled off the trade today. Am I concerned about losing the 4th? not really. The way I see it now homer a chance to sign Streit before Streit can wave a ridiculous offer from another team in homer's face. Hopefully he does sign him. I think Streit will really add what this team is missing (offensive puck movement from the D) and he will pair nicely with either Coburn or Schenn. Although he may cost a lot financially he costs very little in assets. VERY HAPPY to still have Coots and Schenn on the team. I see the flyers D overall as 3 decent pairings that will pretty much be 20 minutes / game each. I'm not concerned over who gets tagged as the #1, #2 #3 dman etc. Although older, Streit only has 7 years of NHL experience so hopefully that helps minimize some of the toll his body has taken over the years. My $0.02.

I sure hope so. Adding Streit is a decent move (depending on contract) but maybe they have something else cooking as well.

I would like to retain the 11th and get top flight D talent to develop the next few years and move a forward for D and not pay out the butt for it.
