a) What happened to Horton? Anyone see how he got hurt?
b) How many moments til one finally gets past Crawford?
EDIT: Speculation of a UBI....ab, maybe? |

I just edited this in, actually....
Doc et al were just talking about how it was speculated he was playing with a UBI. Obviously that was aggravated. The way he was hunched and not moving at all led me to believe it could be like a strained ab muscle or something..... |

intriguing pick
throw in an "on a breakaway".... it's like calling all-net in horse and i don't think it would hurt your odds too much |

Good read on Streit and his performance with the Isles - Jsaquella
thanks
good stuff
i enjoyed the capitalizations:
"Well note that Streit, while still a good D-Man, can no longer carry dead weight partners without seeing negative effects. And remember that we made the playoffs this year despite Streit HAVING TO DO JUST THAT"

I don't understand why there's not enough talk about the Flyers drafting Ryan Pulock. To me, he's the third best defenseman in this draft. I'd be so happy if the Flyers picked him.

It's so much of a no brainer to me to take him that I have to expect that we won't so I'm not disappointed on draft day.
I would be absolutely thrilled if we took him though. If not he'll be the player we're looking to trade for 5 years down the road when we have no puckmovers in our system.
I have to admit I have serious worries about Dallas grabbing him ahead of us. |

Unless a defenseman is an extremely gifted offensive defenseman such as Erik Karlsson, you really don't want your defenseman carrying the puck a lot. You want them to move the puck quickly up to the Forwards as much as possible. And then move up ice as a 5 man unit, with defenseman coming late for offensive opportunities. Skate the puck when it is the only play available to relieve pressure. But if that is happening constantly, then there is a bigger issue. And defenseman carrying the puck too much leads to dump ins that lose possession, and odd man rushes against. Not preferable. - MJL
If it's Matt Carle, yes, you probably don't want him trying to carry the puck too far...but if you're Mark Streit, someone with a level of puck skills and offensive acumen sufficient to play forward effectively, you want to take advantage of that talent, not discourage its use. While Streit doesn't always skate it out, like the upper tier puck movers, he takes the space when given to him, to step up, skate the puck out of the zone and put the opponent on their heels...he's skilled enough to deke around players and get it through to the offensive zone and make a play whereas Matt Carle was more sedentary in the defensive zone, often trying to pass while standing still deep in the zone or after skating a few feet...he rarely skated past his own blueline before making a pass, making his turnovers more dangerous, than those made by top puck carriers who make a good number of their turnovers further away from the defensive zone. |

I have to get up early ... so this is obviously going 4 OT's.
edit: of course, by writing that I'm hoping for a crazy bounce goal in the next minute or two. |

I like Zadorov and Risolainen as well, but to me Pulock has WAY more upside than those two. You can't teach what he has. Big, defensive defenseman are always nice, but they're a dime a dozen and the Flyers already have Schenn, Grossman, Lauridsen etc. They could use a 100 mph, right handed shot and a great outlet passer from the blue line. Go get this kid (if he's there at 11). |
