Why would the team use up a slot on the reserve list just to upgrade the 7th defenseman spot from Gervais to Huskins?

I don't even think it's an upgrade.

Id rather see manning or bourdon there. Neither IMO will ever be better than a #6 guy in the nhl, both are older ahl guys, and both IMO stand a good chance of being better than gervais. Give 'em a shot. I love homer but signing ufa fillers is not his forte (Lilia, Gervais, Shelley, Leighton, etc)

I'd rather have the younger guys playing in the AHL, than sitting in the pressbox at the Wells Fargo.

Seems like a steal after what Perry/Getzlaf signed for.

I'm liking the Streit deal more and more. Regardless of the money this guy is a serious upgrade to the D core. I'm not counting on Mez for anything and I don't think the Flyers are either. This guy is a better fit for the Flyers than the Islanders.

Islanders have a couple young stud two way guys that their ready to give more responsibility to in Mcdonald and Hamonic. With that being said, regardless of what Islander fans think of Streit, the Isle really wanted him back. They dont offer him 3 yrs 15 million if they didnt want him back.

That is a 9.5M cap hit! Guy is easy to throw off his game and plays like a powder puff kid. Don't get me wrong, I would take him on my team in a second because of his offense but......This is wonderful news!!!

Crosby is still getting more cash over that 8 year span than Malkin.

That's true. Letang is prob a goner. At least they can draft nothing but Dmen and wingers for the next 5 years

If not Gervais, who would you like to see in that role? I'd be fine with Huskins, as long as he will accept a one year deal at 900k or less. They can always waive Gervais and send him to the AHL if not claimed, his cap hit is low enough that it would come completely off the books.
- BiggE

I'd prefer Huskins over Gervais. But it doesn't seem as though the Flyers want him back. My point is basically that you just can't put a 7th defenseman in the closet, and never use him while he collects dust. He needs to play on occasion to be ready when you need him.

I doubt Letang is a goner. They're fine for this upcoming season. If anything they can unload MAF and Paul Martin this summer or next.

Manning, and especially Bourdon, who missed the entire last Season, need to be playing. Not sitting in the press box.

I'd prefer Huskins as well. Any 7th NHL dman, will see plenty of game action over the course of a year due to inevitable injuries

The premise of the discussion was that if there was an injury, you call up Lauridsen to replace the injured player, and leave Gervais as the 7th, and in the press box.
