i have nothing against bryz except the cap recapture
i feel like it's going to be interesting to see how many guys get bought out and what kind of new contracts they sign with their new teams
if we ended up with a bought-out luongo, what would you all be willing to pay him? - Don'tForgetTocchet
Lu would get 5M/yr
As long as the term is right |

the worst is trying to go from Wilmington/Newcastle to Middletown (or worse.. somewhere south of there) on a friday afternoon during summer.
My drive home actually gets better once school lets out, even Fridays in the summer are tolerable. - Doc_Sarcasm
I drive from S Philly into Wilmington. Farthest I go is 141 to Kirkwood.....I love driving home on 495......until it merges into 95 |

That's a factor, too, for sure. Streit has been pretty durable, out side of the freak shoulder injury that cost him all of the 2010-11 season. He's played every game in 3 of the last 4 years, outside of that one. - Jsaquella
Sure jinx him now that he's almost a Flyer |

I really thought Bryz had another year here.
Maybe he doesn't want to come back.

Bryz played great at times, but he was far too inconsistent to justify the financial commitment. - Jsaquella
Yeah, but it's hard to be consistent when the team in front of you flat out sucks. *
* Yes, understand the business issues with the risks of his contract, etc. These will be the explanation and justification should he be bought out. It's easier to say that than speak the truth, because we know the players don't like to be thrown under the bus.

There's just no reason to do another year with Bryzgalov. - Jsaquella
I don't buy into "distractions" for teams too much, but I think given all the players on the team would go through the season assuming their goalie back there will be bought out in the offseason.... I can't imagine that wouldn't be some sort of distraction. It's different if the guy is just a UFA I think. |

Gonna be great if they shrink the goalie pads in coming seasons. - Flyskippy
I much prefer that option than the "make the nets bigger!!!1" that I read folks posting/tweeting/writing about. |

So adding a 4th yr can lower the cap hit for Streit?
I thought the new agreement eliminated the ability to significantly front load the deal.
Maybe I misunderstood it. - Marc D
No the new CBA significantly lowers the ability to circumvent the cap. The rule is you can't drop more than 35% from season to season and the lowest year can't be less than 50% of the Highest paid year. It does not equal a lot but it does give some minor benefits.
1- Money up Front. The faster the money gets into the players wallet the better for the player. They get all the equity from having the money outright.
2- Longer the deal, the bigger the cap break. It takes 3 years to get from the big payoff to the 50% year. So any Front loaded deal should be at least 4 years if you want to cut the cap hit. For example 7/5/3.5 has a cap hit of 5.17 but adding a fourth year at 3.5 gives it a cap hit of 4.75.
3. Players looking for security tend to take less for the extra years, especially if they like the team.
4. Teams can trade easier. Should a trade be required a player making less than his cap hit is more attractive to lower income teams trying to make the cap floor.
The CBA has removed a lot of the benefits of being a Wealthier team when it comes to rewarding players. This is a pretty minor one, but if you are a wealthier team, I would do it as much as the NHL lets us. |

The team, at times, did suck in front of him, but his level of play besides that simply wasn't good enough. |

A little. And not nearly enough to warrant dismissal based on play alone. Not. Even. Close.
Most of the goaltending problem last year was caused by the skaters outside the crease. |

One hand washes the other.
Unfortunately for Bryz it's easier to replace him than the other 20+ guys. Such is life on the Philly goalie carousel. |

I think it's everything. Poor play, cap recapture, relationships with the team, the circus, the term of the contract...
It just didn't work out. Bryz will be a very rich man and maybe Snider will allow his GM to just do his job in the future - Jsaquella

What a circus the Bryzgalov era was. That couldn't have gone worse. - PLindbergh31
Sure it could've gone worse. There could be no compliance buyout where they have an out. There is always a bright side to everything. |

First, I heard a rumor out of Canada on Monday (very good source) that the Leafs have offered two mid-level roster players and a package of draft picks for Tampa Bay’s 3rd selection overall and Vincent LeCavalier, who would then be bought out.
Not making it up—I wouldn’t pretend to know enough about either team to do so. Good source, take it for what it is.

Would the league fold the Coyotes? I just heard someone on the radio who covers the NHL (can't remember his name, Chris something) say it was a possibility. |
