What's the bright side to the Pronger injury? - PLindbergh31
Gives us a reason to moan for the next 4 years. |

The rest of the NHL is safer? - jmatchett383
Is it though? Isn't the visor rule being grandfathered in? Meaning players who are already in the NHL that haven't worn visors still do not have to do so?

I sit on a second floor large open office space. No lie, When the ewarthquake hit we were having a team building indoor relay type race. Just something small to raise spirits. Well I was working and started to feel the shaking, I literally thought it was from a larger person running down the isle. It took about 20 seconds to realize what was happening. - youarewrong

If all players have to wear them, does this mean the fighting with a visor rule will be removed? I hope so, cause it's either that or remove fighting alltogether. |

Would the league fold the Coyotes? I just heard someone on the radio who covers the NHL (can't remember his name, Chris something) say it was a possibility. - mayorofangrytown
Based on Bettman's remarks yesterday at the presser, I'd say there is no chance that the Coyotes fold. Moving to another market is a possibility. Quebec is in the process of building a new NHL arena, and Seattle is foaming at the mouth for another professional franchise, and it doesnt look like they'll be getting an NBA team while David Stern still draws breath. |

Well, here's my idea (please, rip apart as you see fit):
Florida is struggling for cash. Their season tix started at $7 (full cost $168) and included a free jersey ($60 min. value). They do not have a big-time "household" or "marquee" name. So, my idea would be (please read the entire post before ripping):
To Pitt:
Huberdeau
Markstrom
2014 1st
2015 1st
Weiss
To Fla:
Malkin
Now, as good as Malkin is, no self-respecting GM would do the deal. It's your 2 best young players plus 2 straight 1st rounders and a 2nd line center for 1 player.
However, Malkin is more than just a player. He's a name you can post on a billboard. He's a player you can promote. Basically, he's what an owner of a team like Florida wants. Think Gretzky in LA; their season tix sales skyrocketed after they land their "name" player. So this deal could be an owner-driven deal more than a GM-driven deal.
Pittsburgh gets a cheap, young, first-line winger. They get a top young goalie to supplant/backup MAF. They get a center to battle with Sutter for the 2/3C spot. And they get 2 picks. Florida gets the player who can hopefully be their first bonafide superstar and brings in tons of revenue in gate and merchandise sales. |

You can scratch a move to Quebec. That was brought up and the reporter said there is absolutely no way any team "moves" to Quebec or the Toronto area. According to him the expansion fee for Quebec is expected to be $500,000,000 and the fee for a new team in the GTA is anticipated at close to the billion dollar mark. |

That we can use the LTIR exemption to add replacement players. Thank God for the LTIR rule!

I think this deal shows moxie, guts, and business foresight.
It will never happen.

In 5 years Crosby is going to have so many concussion problems his career is going to go the way of Lindros, 3rd liner, and Malkins knees are going to be replaced 3 times and he wont be able to move.... and it will be sweet to watch them be in cap hell for the next 8 years.

If all players have to wear them, does this mean the fighting with a visor rule will be removed? I hope so, cause it's either that or remove fighting alltogether. - Bearintheforest
I think the "fighting with a visor" rule is more about not wanting players who wear visors to outright instigate fights. This was the rule that Jake Voracek was penalized under last year during a game where he stood up for Claude Giroux.
The instigator rule is still stupid, visors or not. |

Of course it would. But if you're Shero, you don't HAVE to trade him. If Florida wants him, you hold them over a barrel and walk away if you want. |

So got a text from a friend about this report:
http://www.thefourthperiod.com/news/phi130613.html
Take it how you will... Nothing new I thought but he was certain that this was legit. - FlyersGrace
The league source also indicated that the decision to buy out Bryzgalov's deal isn't fully related to money, as "he's disliked by many" of his teammates.
"They don't want to play for him or with him," the league source said.
