Coburn is staying. Meszaros on his way out.
Love him or hate him, Homer is certainly one of the most proactive GMs
Maybe we can do a Meszaros for Hamonic, straight up trade !

- MrBigglesworth

Trading Meszaros would be a mistake.

Sounds like it's a 2014 4th rounder as well...

Flyers traded a pick and a free agent for the opportunity to not overpay for someone else
- NYI44

Fixed. This is possibly the better of many other possible overpayments

Streit's agent, Pat Brisson will begin negotiations with Paul Holmgren today. A 4 year deal is the target.

I just threw up in my mouth...

He can play 20+ minutes per game in every situation, and is a PP stud.
He was Captain, just like Timonen.

The contract will be same as Gonchar's 2yr/10mill

- MrBigglesworth

Not really. More of a PP and offensive specialist. Then a guy who is going to play on the PK and match up against top lines in key defensive situations. There are pluses and negatives. He will most certainly upgrade the puck skills on the backend and bring an element that is needed to the team. I'll be okay with a 2 year deal, but we'll see.

A 4th rounder is not exactly a big payment and we need to fix the D.

Edit, as someone points out..it's a 2014 4th rounder.. not exactly a high price to pay.

Who are the Isles getting to replace Streit's minutes?
- johndewar

He's not even on the top defensive pairing and they have Matt Donovan who will most likely play and Reinhart who I don't think is ready yet. But I think they'll be fine.

Ha! Paul Holmgren's like, "Hey, if this crap doesn't work, I won't be around to miss that pick anyway."

The four years scares me, but this may be a better idea than a Yandle for Cooter and a 1st type of BS.
- Hextall271

I agree - he's a steady D-man - but he's 35. I'm still blown away that Gonachar got 5 a year for 2.

He is a true offensive d-man who isnt terrible defensively. Hell of a shot which should make the already potent PP even better. I dont mind it so long as he isnt signed too long.

The contract they'll have to give him might be unsavory. He's a UFA.

I'm not here to troll. But Streit is anything but steady when it comes to playing D. He'll help out the PP a lot but if you're not on the PP he will not help you. Horrific in his own end. He turned down a 3 years for 4.7 a year I believe so he is going to get over 5 a year for at least 3 years and that's crazy. Good luck either way

Agreed. He's not in pocket yet. Not even sure we want him there. But it's interesting to consider both the good and the bad he'd bring.

If by fine you mean missing the playoffs again with "devils" like attandance.... ok.
