If hes not still hurt. It will probably be Coburn
- TrentKlatt

No way they trade Coburn and keep Mezaros.

rights to a 50 point veteran defenceman ? whts not to like!

we should have gotten rights to tim thomas thrown in for good measure

- MrBigglesworth

not being bitter or anything (i happen to be THRILLED with it) but streit is not what he used to be. he will not live up to expectations if he is expected to be anything more than a 5-6 dman

There's no way that loosing Streit will result in missing the playoffs. If they miss the playoffs it won't be because of Streit. I have so much respect for him and like him a lot but there's no way he's worth what he is asking for and he does have faults. With attendance, we'll see how they do this year since they're supposed to be a better team finally.
- NYI44

They are going to be a better team, but its going to be tougher to make the playoffs.

His worth is what it would be on the open market. He is the best puck moving defenseman available.

So, in retrospect:
If he gets Matt Carle $$ at 4 years, would you rather have:

Matt Carle ($5.5M, signed through 17/18)
Mark Streit ($5.5M, signed through 16/17, over-35 contract)

- jmatchett383

The over 35 thing doesn't bother Homer. He will just put him on LTIR for the last year of the 4 year deal.

Agreed. If they trade Coburn, they're basically replacing Coburn with Streit (unless you package Coburn and bring in another defender).

Streit and its not even close. I'll take old zombie Streit over Matt, I may only have one turnover a game but it is right to a forward in front of my own net, Carle.

Absolutely I just don't think he's worth 3+ years for 5 mil a year

If Mez is still hurt, you cant trade him. If they need the cap space, I would rather trade Coburn than Grossmannnnnn

I dont get it. Everyone just 2 hours ago was clammoring for the Flyers NOT to trade Schenn and Couturier, and if Striet signs the Flyers dont have to make a major move to get that number 1 d-man just yet. Just a minor tweak should be fine now... come on... quit the knee jerk and think about it.

Per Spector... "The Flyers are keen to add an experienced puck-moving defenseman and I expect they’ll sign the 35-year-old Streit signed to a three- or four-year contract, worth perhaps around $6 million per season." That's crazy talk

Well, when has Homer ever "underpaid" after acquiring a soon-to-be-FA?

I think they should trade someone if they sign Streit. Gustafsson is a top 6 defender or at least deserves a chance to be. Besides, they could get decent value for Coburn, Grossmann, or Mesz (highest value to lowest).
- NickTheKid87

Mezaros makes the most sense to move for team balance.

Soooooooo
Mark Streit better not be the only dman we acquire this offseason...
hope Homer has something else in mind for a dman. Streit is a good #2 guy but really like eh.

Yeah. Apparently he told the Isles he wanted NORTH of $5.5M.

Now THERE is the throw-up in the mouth. Screw that. Streit is NOT Kimmo. I would not pay that dude more than Gonchar.

Maybe they flip him to Pittsburgh for a 3rd rounder?

Would you guys do the Schenn brothers for the 10th and robidas. Be able to get 3 good D in that trade.

Let's say we do you guys a favor and take briere to buyout or use. You'd be able to pick pollock or nurse with that pick. And free up cap space

I'd like to see if reuniting Glennie and Schenn works out and gets Glennie going

Given the Flyers penchant for going for it now, plus a very expensive D, AND the fact that they did this BEFORE the draft (and are already negotiating with Brisson), I wonder if they are looking to package Coburn + 11th to move up in the draft. Maybe not top 5, but could be targeting a forward who can make immediate impact.
I think it has to be Coburn with the others injury history.

- TheGreat28

This. The fact Carolina wants a top 4 defenseman, and we might now have that access I see a move happening.

What I think might happen is Move up to Edmonton 7th, then trade 7th and Coburn to either Nashville or Carolina.

Then you'll be happy because he can still move the puck. He'll help you but the money some of these guys are getting is crazy
- Vukota

Ya know, I agree,.... it is nuts, but that's the market.. imagine what it's gonna cost to trade for one? It would gut our young forward corps.

Mez is actually supposedly on track to be ready for Camp. Grossmann's the one with the Concussion issues.
