He is a true offensive d-man who is terrible defensively. Hell of a shot which should make the already potent PP even better. I dont mind it so long as he isnt signed too long.

Per Spector... "The Flyers are keen to add an experienced puck-moving defenseman and I expect they’ll sign the 35-year-old Streit signed to a three- or four-year contract, worth perhaps around $6 million per season." That's crazy talk
- TrentKlatt

Yikes, that'll cause a lot of people to lose sleep at night.

Absolutely I just don't think he's worth 3+ years for 5 mil a year
- NYI44

Unfortunately, that is the going rate.

Soooooooo
Mark Streit better not be the only dman we acquire this offseason...
hope Homer has something else in mind for a dman. Streit is a good #2 guy but really like eh.

- FLYERSROCK!

Striet makes it so that you dont have to make a move for a Number 1 guy yet. I would expect another trade to get another puck moving defenseman, but a younger one. Maybe Laughton for Runblad or Ellis. Think you can get Voynov from LA?

Agreed. Flyers need to make better deals, like the Yashin trade/contract/buyout, the Luongo trade, and the DiPietro signing.

Id want $5.5+ to play for the Islanders too?
- Trainfellow

This. I think that was his price for the Islanders. I would be fine with a deal of 5-5.5 for 3 years. Its not that outragous a number.

not being bitter or anything (i happen to be THRILLED with it) but streit is not what he used to be. he will not live up to expectations if he is expected to be anything more than a 5-6 dman
- LetsGoIsles

He won't be. Our D corp is made of #2-4 dmen, and if utilized correctly (As in, giving more equal responsibilities to all of our dmen), we can be very solid. It's the type of defense where, when healthy you can be happy giving all three pairs 20 minutes, and not put too much stress on any particular guy. It's an interesting, and when used correctly, effective way to negate the need for a star #1 guy. If we actually sign Streit, it's just a matter of Lavvy utilizing his corp correctly.

"Personally, I would have preferred the Flyers acquire a younger and cheaper puck-mover even if the player wasn't as accomplished offensively as Streit's bankable 45 to 55 points per season. "

whos available like that?

If I had to guess, they will get it done becasue the alternatives are to overpay with young players. These type of D are a hot commodity now. like it or not.

A 4th rounder in 2014 is a fair payment for that opportunity.

- Hextall271

im not trolling...and im being dead serious

i would have been pissed if the islanders signed him for 1 year at the league minimum. the flyers are a physical and aggressive team...streit isnt at all

4th in 2014 though.. the rest is correct other than we will have to overpay to get him. Pronger should have just stayed healthy.

Since they're so "physical and aggressive" it means that Streit doesn't have to fill that role.

That's an overstatement or you just streit up hated the guy. He was your captain, so he must have had some redeeming qualities to someone in the org. If he brings what he has before, signs a 3 yr 5.5 mil contract and stays healthy, I am ok with it. Way better than losing Cooter or Schenn or our first.

Exactly. I was thinking of the possible pairings. Put him with Schenn or Coburn? Grosmann?

find a place where i signed off on those deals...they are terrible. granted. but to resort to that is childish and not really relevant

having said that, the isles have plenty of cap space so yashin/dp contract isnt an issue.

im here to talk hockey and mark streit... if i were a flyers fan, knowing what i know about streit, hes aging quickly and his knees have been barking. as an islanders fan, i was thrilled when they said he wont be resigned.

Depending on what the cost of the contract is I love the move.

I am all in for getting a stopgap for that D without giving up youth.

Keep the kids, and build it right through the draft, which may take time.

Absolutely love the move

He was the captain and I think most isles fans liked him. He's leaving with respect but its time for the Isles to move on and now JT must become captain.

Mez is actually supposedly on track to be ready for Camp. Grossmann's the one with the Concussion issues.
- flyler

meszaros would bring lowest return in a trade, but could do the most good for the flyers if healthy.
i keep him.
