I don't know how much people know about Matt Read's path to the NHL but I'm pretty sure he's been cut from a number of teams before landing with the Flyers. Call it whatever you want but some players get drafted and play as young as 18 but in Read's case, I believe he was 25 before getting where he aimed to be. As you did point out though, Read vs. Bernier, I'm far from ready to call either guy legit. I also agree with you that players who sometimes come into league late, exit early. It's possible this trend could change. - dingo8urbaby
He has not been cut from a number of teams on his path to the NHL. He came straight from College Hockey to the Phantoms in 10/11 on a tryout contract. And then he's been on the Flyers ever since. |

A lot of well deserved focus has been placed on the defense. The Flyers need to improve there. Something a trade or signing won't change is how they preform team defense on the ice. With this said though I feel the Flyers need to improve on defense as well as the offense. Sure the Flyers don't have trouble scoring but the players expected to be a guarantee are Giroux, Hartnell, Voracek, Simmonds and Read. Then we're left crossing our fingers that one of or both Schenn and Couturier will break out. I'm crossing my fingers with everyone else but I still feel we need more offense. |

I've heard he's been cut from a few teams. |

He spent a good 4 years toiling in Junior-D, to Junior-B, to Junior-A... it's probably safe to say that he was cut during tryouts/camp from a few higher tier junior clubs before he ultimately took the risk of going the USHL > College route.
It's definitely one of the more roundabout paths to the NHL that you're ever going to see. |

I didn't hear this word for word as you've pointed out but this was the story based around Matt Read when Bob McKenzie had him pegged to win Rookie of the year going into his first season and winning a spot on the Flyers roster out of his first camp. Not that I blame anyone but I think people forget that he's closer to his late 20's then his early 20's like the rest of our youth group. |

Avs want BARKOV
http://whl-from-above.blo...rue-draft-target-for.html - FLYERSROCK!
Listen, anything can happen. Maybe the Avs completely fall off the wagon and take Barkov.
But I'm not putting any stock in to it based on this "blog." |

Just leave him on there and we all know that if you're in the negative, that it's not necessarily incorrect.

I read a blog today that said Nichushkin could fall into the teens.
I'm no expert but if he gets to 7 I'd be shocked. |

If he falls to 11 and the Flyers take Zadorov, I'm quitting hockey. |

if that happens some people should be fired. i dont care about the russian factor, at some point someone has to pull the trigger on that upside. if he was really in the teens, id try hard to move back into the first round to get him somehow. |

I won't believe they will take anyone but Jones until they actually do. - johndewar
Erik Johnson, Hedman, Bouwmeester, Larsson, Barker, Berard, Phillips, Aki Berg, Jovanovski... I can understand why they'd be hesitant to take a dman that high, no matter what the experts are saying pre-draft. |

He sited Tarasenko and Cherepanov as instances. Tarasenko fell to 16 and Cherepanov fell into the twenties after being ranked in the top 5. I remember Cherepanov falling and I couldn't believe it. Could it happen again? I guess. If the Flyers pass on him I'm with you.
I'll still have to go to Midget hockey though. Kind of an obligation. |

Uncheck the box at the top on the right for demotions. The simply X out Pronger to remove him Or just keep him in there and know that they can go 4.91M over. |

They did a huge riff on just that on hockey central today. I can understand the hesitation. Consensus was that anyone who passed on Nathan McKinnon would regret it. |

I'd be very hesitant too, but Jones seems to have it all -- including hockey sense.
Still wouldn't fault a team for taking MacKinnon, but I would take Jones first or 2nd (and I LOATHE taking defensemen in Round 1). |

So does Letang get moved at the draft? Penguins get the 5th pick for him plus? Let the record show I posted it first. |

I have to admit that I'm a huge fan of Toews. But he has been disapointing in this Series. And for most of the playoffs. That's the Selke winner there caught in no man's land, leaving Bergeron unchecked. - MJL
Maybe they picked the wrong player for the Selke?
Kidding, both Toews and Bergeron are great choices, but Bergeron has been much better in the playoffs so far.
I am expecting a big game from Toews tonight, though. |
