Ryan, a Cherry Hill, NJ native is a huge fan favorite in Anaheim, but becomes expendable with all the money thrown at Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry. In addition the emergence of younger players like Pat Maroon and Emerson Etem have made the possibility of this trade all the more feasible.

yeah too bad that pick turned out to be Joni Pitkanen instead of Duncan Keith - MrBigglesworth
That draft was one of the thinnest of the past 20-odd years, so that could also be why the cost to move up was so low. |

The only thing that works against Joni Pitkanen is his attitude. I don't think he's a great player but make him a better teammate and I'd would rather have him right now then Mark Streit. - dingo8urbaby
While Pitkanen does play solid defence and can run the PP when healthy, he's been mostly injured last few seasons in Carolina. If you think our defence is hurting, look at the Canes. Corso, Gleason.. brutal |

Maybe they picked the wrong player for the Selke?
Kidding, both Toews and Bergeron are great choices, but Bergeron has been much better in the playoffs so far.
I am expecting a big game from Toews tonight, though. - Marc D
The goals/assists numbers aren't there, but he's been putting up amazing possession numbers against the best competition the league can throw at him.
His team is shooting 5% when he's on the ice. Tough to accumulate numbers that way, and yet Chicago is still outscoring their opponents at even strength when he's on the ice.
Foreshadowing?

Pat Maroon.
If that's not the very definition of one's man's trash being another man's treasure.
What was his story here again? He was out of shape all the time? Bad attitude? I don't remember, specifically, but I remember the relationship between Maroon and the Flyers ended acrimoniously.

terrible work ethic among other things.
when you get a nickname of Fat Balloon, you know things have gone downhill from the days when you were drafted #2 overall |

I think he was referring to Pat Maroon.
Not to be confused with former Flyer and former SJ Sharks draft pick Pat Falloon.
Both, I guess, could be called "Fat Balloon" because of how their names sound. |

Bryan Allen got what? 3.5/year when he left Carolina? Gleason is better and younger.

at the risk of sounding uninformed, i believe that is carolina's pick right? honestly, they wouldnt be my choice to try to work out a deal with. the 5th pick on its own isnt enough for me, and i think it would be difficult to hammer out other pieces to make it work. - stayinthefnnet
Skinner, 5th and a prospect? Sounds like Letang is slotted at 6 mil if he wants to stay in the Pit. He's not settling for that. Trading partners tend to revisit. |

I dont think Gleason is one of the root causes of Carolina's struggles. I would take him too. I watched a little bit of Carolina early in the season and it seemed at the time like their forwards were a mess when they had to be defensively responsible, and were not terribly good at puck security. |

i dont know why skinner doesnt get me giddy like he should. hes not exactly cheap anymore, and he looked pretty pedestrian last year.

I realize the biggest knock on this is we did is get older on defense, and we may be thinner. But I'm a big fan of Scuderi and wouldn't blink to sign him for 3 years. But I believe this is all worth it in order to acquire Nichushkin and Bernier. I also prefer B Schenn to move to the wing. - Just5
I actually like this. If the pieces could all come together I'd be happy seeing this happen |
