i wouldnt be sure either. i guess it depends on how you view him. the opinion seems to run the spectrum. and yeah i know right. but still, it just seems to me to just be the result of both teams playing really well, as opposed to both playing really bad (as the pens/flyers typically did) if that makes any sense - stayinthefnnet
I don't have a problem with shaving salary off of the d core. However, out of the three possibilities (Coburn, Grossmann, and Mez), I find it odd that the Flyers would trade probably the healthiest of the 3.
I'm still trying to figure out why Murray would add more pieces to the d-core. Why not just resign Lydman? I would think Vatenen would get a look and Lindholm was their first round pick. Coburn is a $4.5 million/yr cap hit for another 3 years. Just seems kind of strange, unless more pieces are involved.

to be fair, its probably because he would be the one to bring the best return for that very reason.
and i really dont know what Murray is doing to be honest. ive always thought ryan should be part of the solution, and not constantly dangled about.

lol - and coby was out indefinitely to end the year with a shoulder injury.

Sure Coburn would bring the best return. However, Grossmann is recovering from concussion problems and Mez from a second serious shoulder surgery and Achilles tear. I'm confident Gus is ready for a bigger role this year, if Coburn is moved over a salary dump involving Mez, then I have to believe the organization feels Alt or Lauridson could be ready to step into the top 6.

im not saying you guys should go out of your way to move him. but if you want to move salary from your D, he is probably the easiest to do that with.

The Flyers were pretty bad last year scoring at even strength, it is not a given that it will drastically improve this season. I understand the interest in Ryan considering they took a serious run at Parise, I don't think a shortened season changed their opinions that much that additional forward help is needed.
I hear ya, but separated shoulder isn't as bad as concussion and body parts barely being attached, good god what a mess. - ravishingone
Both Mesz and Coburn are young enough to be able to rebound from just about any injury given time and treatment. Lucky for them we didn't make the playoffs.

i still think the troubles at even strength stemmed more from difficulty in the transition game from the defenders than actual lack of forward scoring depth. just my opinion though

I'm not sure about Mez. Two shoulder surgeries, back surgery, and a ruptured Achilles during his career. I think it is pretty risky to assume he can stay healthy for an entire season and playoff run.

Definitely risky, no doubt about it. I assume he's a candidate for the top secret bionics program, but that's all hush-hush.
But if anybody can recover from all of the above, it will be a 27 year old as opposed to someone in their 30s. But still, as you said, it's a gamble.
yep. ill admit, he does have some skill though. not to be an bumhole with the reference, but hes not a ronaldo. however, he is just such a (frank)ing little scumbag. and then he will act like that, and then be a total girl right after, or just have a look of such incredulous disbelief on his face that someone has a problem with him

Interesting that the organization may be reshaping the d core to fit Lava's original vision. Coburn has very good mobility, but limited in his ability to generate offense with leading a rush and outlet passing. Mez is better in those areas as Streit should be also.

I don't wish injury on any player, but I'm always looking for someone to lay a clean, heavy hit or 3 on him when we play the Bruins. He's a solid player, and a pest, and I'll never like him.
I don't get how Rinaldo has such a rep in the league. Do you view him as a pest, or something more?
