Ryan has played plenty with very high quality linemates in Getzlaf and Perry. I dont think playing with Giroix and Voracek would mean a dramatic uptick in what he produces. - bmeltzer
Maybe, maybe not but Giroux also has been more of a healthy player then Ryan Getzlaf the past few seasons and Giroux has also shown he is capable of being on of the best passers in the league. Getzlaf and Perry are practically a lock to play with one another, while Ryan flip flops off their line. I think a Bobby Ryan trade could turn things around for him slightly, the same way things have turned in Simmonds and Voracek. For example, Simmonds wasn't getting any PP time at all with the Kings. I believe Ryan is spotted on the Ducks first unit PP behind Getzlaf, Perry and Selanne. |

Bobby Lou would cost an arm and a leg to trade for....and he will want top dollar from the next team....idk why anyone would trade for him when the Canucks are in cap trouble and will need to buy him out regardless. - Pyzik
That's the thing.. Van City is in a pickle here.. they want assets for him,but no one wants the contract. So maybe you can't trade him and have to buy him out. |

So wait... you dont get getting Streit, you dont get the interest in Bernier, but you do get the interest in Ryan.
- jak521
Without a doubt. The Flyers aren't having trouble scoring goals but I'm not seeing much of a game breaker on this roster. Who is our sniper? Voracek played extremely this past season and I'm not saying Bobby Ryan game breaker but he's more of a sniper then what we've already got. We have a top center and I've always said we need a top winger/sniper to play with him.
We picked up Steve Mason and an easy fix if possible, we could sign Ray Emery without handing over and assets. As far as Mark Streit goes, is he replacing Kimmo Timonen? Is he great defensively? This is going to be a scary blueline once Timonen moves on and not in a positive way. |

I assume you are a fan of Ryan's?
Getzlaf is one of the elite set up men in the game today. Over the past three seasons he has 137 assists in 193 games (.709 A/G)
Giroux is also one of the elite set up guys in the game today. He has 151 assists over his past 207 gameas (.729 A/G)..
If you break it down.. over a full 82 game season... thats 1.64 MORE assists per season for Giroux than it is for Getzlaf.
The likely hood of seeing Ryan jump from a 30 goal scorer to a 40+ goal scorer by going from Getzlaf to Giroux just isnt realistic.
He is a good first line winger... He isnt an elite talent. You dont break the bank to get him... |

Let's say Read has a 25G 25A season. What's he looking to earn as a UFA? I don't really have a good idea because his age/experience make him an anomalous case |

I seem to remember last year hearing how Vancouver was going to rake in the picks and prospects/players for Luongo and that his bloated contract was not an issue.
I think it goes to show how important salary factors into things in a cap world regardless of people who would like to spin it on talent alone.
Then again, all it takes is one sucker who believes that he needs to acquire the player at any cost to prove the GM correct.
Take Bryz, is there another GM in the league who would've given him a 9yr/52 mill contract? Most likely not but Holmgren/Snider felt that they had to have Bryz at any cost which allowed the agent to squeeze every dime he could out of them. |

Getzlaf and Ryan aren't on a line together full time.
It's not like I'm saying follow through with the trade proposed either. |

Considering the Flyer's issues in net, the blueline, and in getting under the cap I just can't see spending assets or cap space on Ryan. He isnt enough of an upgrade over anything they already have and he doesnt answer any of the most pressing needs they have.
That doesnt mean they won't do it, I just can't imagine for the life of me why Flyers management would let itself get distracted by every bright shiny thing that comes across its line of sight. |

To be honest.. I think the complete opposite.
Offense and scoring goals has been our strongest asset the past few years.
2010-2011 we ranked 3rd in total goals.
2011-2012 we ranked 2nd in total goals.
2012-2013 we ranked 9th in total goals.
In 2012-2013 we ranked 23rd in goals against.
Bobby Ryan would do absolutely nothing to help better that mark. He is pretty much a one way player. He is spotty offensively... but can be dynamic.
We didnt go add Streit to be the heir to Timonens throne. We added him to be Mark Streit in a Flyers uniform. He is going to play on the PP and bring a much needed puck moving presence to the back end. Is adding him a good idea? I thing it is... however the terms of his contract are pretty iffy IMO.
As for Bernier... any time you can get a goalie with top end starters potential, AND who has already shown the ability to play in the NHL.. you should be interested. Mason is a HUGE question mark. |

Ryan will almost certainly sign with the Flyers if he reaches UFA. For that reason alone, it makes no sense to spend assets to acquire him earlier than that given all the other holes that must be filled and the additional holes created by getting him. Nonsensical. |

Compared to whom?
There's no proof as to whether Bernier is ready to be a full time starter.
There is a definitive proof about Matt Read, as to what kind of player he is. |

I'm just wondering if it's feasible to really keep him beyond this season, considering Hartnall and Simmonds are locked in already, and Giroux, Schenn, Couturier will get extensions. Obviously they could move guys in trades and what not, but if it may be realistically hard to keep him beyond this season, maybe the Bernier thing makes a bit more sense depending on if/how much more it'd cost. |
