I'm sure they've run the numbers for at least 5 years out.
Their conclusions may change by the week, however. - bradleyc4
The rabid fan in me loves that they will shake things up though. So I'm speaking out of both sides of my mouth. |

It would be nice but I see it as a distant (pull out your telescope) hope...
On a side note anyone else hoping to see how Alt does in the AHL this year? I'm kinda hoping we see him in some pre-season games. - FlyersGrace
I'm kind of upset Gostisbere is returning to College. I want to see what he has in the Pros. |

i know enough that instinct tells me that timp and seravali where stirring the pot yesterday for attention and nothing they ever said becomes true....its funny how out of all the teams the flyers are the only team in the headlines for all these crazy a$$ rumors - mydoglicks
The Flyers and Toronto, though with Howard Berger out of the mix Ontario isn't as nuts as it used to be.
All the beat writers are hearing the same things ours just tend to put them out there unfiltered. |

It is a high risk, high reward situation. If you trade a roster player (Maybe 2) you get some cap relief at the same time. You will have him under your control for a few years at a low cap hit. - Jimmygrazz
High risk, high reward, wure but I think staying at a 11 eliminates a lot of the risk and they could still get a prospect that could be yield a high reward. |

I would be willing to do this as well. If you do, then I definately think Couturier would be traded for a top defender. I can completely see the following happen, but I'm not predicting it.
11th overall + Coburn + Cousins for 5th overall. Nichushkin or Barkov.
Couturier + Meszaros for Shattenkirk.
Sign 2nd line center. - youarewrong
I'm not sure these trades will be enough. Maybe the first but the second isn't enough for Shattenkirk, IMO. Other teams could offer a better deal to STL. |

Hi Bill,
Quick question. Anyone else please chime in as well. Are you comfortable with Schenn or Couturier being the second line center? Do you think there is a chance the Flyers target someone like Ribiero or Weiss to make the current depth stronger and move Schenn to LW? - youarewrong
I think Brayden Schenn looks much better as a center but if this makes sense, he had better production as a winger his rookie season.
Schenn-Briere-Simmonds (Rookie season)
Briere-Schenn-Simmonds (Second season)
Sometimes the little things matter. We all know Briere is a much better center then he is a winger but it might be important to Schenn development to keep him in his natural position at center |

the flyers plan based on plyrs they want at a given time, not on a cogent, durable strategy or philosophy. - isaiah520
That is every team's plan. They go after the player they want at a given time. Whether it's choosing who to draft, who to trade for. Or who to sign as a Free Agent. And it's based on the needs of the team.

For once it will be nice to see them actually let a defensive prospect develop.
And I'm sure the Flyers would love him in the AHL as well but he's too young correct? |

Bill (and everyone else);
1) Is it reasonably expected that the cap will rise sufficiently for 14-15 to cover the increases needed to extend current roster players they see as long term (Giroux, primarily) components;
2) Are there any $6M men out there for 14-15, offense or defense, that would be a wash with Timonen's salary going away (assumes he doesn't decide to wait another year to retire);
The Flyers should consider trading Couturier. The two variables are what you are getting back and where you see Laughton's development. What you get may more than compensate for any differential in upside Coots would provide over Laughton.
For sh--s and giggles, say you could trade Coots, Coburn and #11 to either Col/Fla for their pick (in order to get Jones) and their 2014 #1, Then you sign Zubrus. Not likely to happen but what IF that was the return? Would you do it? |

Ironic thing is that Read actually has less of a pro track record than Bernier by a long shot. And... there's no shortage of NHL forwards that started their careers with a bang but faded into obscurity, so it's not like Read's a sure thing moving forward either.
Read's trade value might never be higher, while there's still some perceived upside there. - Tomahawk
Just as there is no shortage of NHL Goaltenders who were thought to be the next best thing, that never got there. Read is legit. I don't know that Bernier is. And I don't see how any other fan knows that he is either.

I'm perfectly fine with Schenn being the second line Center and Couturier centering the third line.
I should be GM.
