Heart and Speed - Matthew Read!
I am afraid that in order to dump Meszaros' contract we're going to have to package Read along with him.
Read and Mez for a prospect and a pick or something like that. |

Glen Cochrane was not very good at ice hockey. |

the fact that Vandermeer and Busniuk crack the Flyers 10 Ten Undrafted list proves how important the draft is.
Undrafted players the quality of Kerr and Poulin come around VERY infrequently. |

You could take those two off and put Bobrovsky and Gustafsson on. I thought about both of them but Bob only spent two years here and just one as the primary starter, while Gustafsson is on the brink of finally becoming a full-time NHL player and has to actually do it first. |

No. He was 29 but the NHL rules at the time required all European league players to be drafted.

Absolutely! He had 4 consecutive 50 goal seasons in an era where holding, hooking and slashing were basically legal. I have to think if that era had played with today's crackdown on obstruction, he might have scored 70 goals or more.
His release on his wrist shot was unbelievable, he may have been the best pure powerplay sniper I have ever seen. |

I doubt it. There will be a lot of teams willing to take a flyer on a possible top 4 two way defensemen if healthy, especially if you consider he's only signed for one more year if he's not. |

I think a trade of Meszaros is possible. But I don't see a lot of teams being interested. |

Great article Bill. I think drafting overagers who are a little further in their careers might be easier then predicting what kind of players they are going to be at 17-18. More time to see what skills develop and how committed these kids are to their hockey careers. |

Bill, do you think because of internet and televised games all over that the quality and quantity of non-drafted players has been declining, or do you think that because of an increase in popularity there are more players playing under the radar? |

Perhaps, but he made Pelle Lindbergh feel comfortable and protected upon Pelle's arrival to the NHL.
I think I read that in some brilliant writer's book about Pelle Lindbergh.

I do think the Islanders are a team on the rise. Their days of being a doormat are over, I think, with Tavares, Moulson, etc.

Well both have a superstar center, and good depth up front. The Isles have more D prospects, but who knows if they are any better, as of now I would say the Flyers D is a little better. Both have Question marks in goal. Overall the fact that the Flyers will spend any amount of money to win, may give them a slight edge, but perhaps the Isles will get more aggressive once they move to Brooklyn. |
