I have to disagree a bit there, I would say by the mid to late 90s, Yzerman was as good a player as anyone in the NHL. - BiggE
That was the period where Yzerman, as he got older, sublimated a lot of his offensive game for defense.
Don't forget that Yzerman was consistently among the highest scorers of the late '80's. |

Goalies are hard to rank. I think you have to do a pre-butterfly and post-butterfly ranking. Dryden was good, but if he played his style today, he'd get lit up. So would Parent. So would Tretiak. The butterfly has proven to be far superior.
In fact, going back even further, goalies used to not be allowed to leave their feet on saves. So the REALLY old goalies can't be compared to today's. - jmatchett383
I wouldn't classify Brodeur as a butterfly goaltender. He seemed to do just fine. Same with Tim Thomas, Nabakov, Miller...
There were many goalies who used the butterfly back in the day. Esposito, for one. Glenn Hall before that. |

Especially once Yzerman completely remaid his all around game. He was a much better player then when he was racking up 150 pt seasons. |

Give Jagr and Gagne 2m each? How do they do that with the Salary cap? As it stands right now, the Flyers need to reduce payroll by 2.5M to be cap compliant. |

Agreed 100%. Seeing these guys in their prime is the key. Watching highlights, or tapes doesn't really do them justice.
Regarding Bobby Orr, his prime was 1969-1974, a person would have to be close to 50 years of age to have seen Orr at his best. - PLindbergh31
Almost 49 here . Saw all of Gretz and Mario's career and Orr in his prime.
And les Habs win 8 Cups and your Flyers 2. |

Tampa Bay was 3rd in the League this past Season with 3.06 goals per game - MJL
I did this based on 2011-2012, where they were tied for 9th in the league. That's good, but in a lower scoring era it has an effect on the "timeless" baseline that he's been put on with Bossy. I think it kind of shows that Bossy is more of a product of his time, while Stamkos is more of an exception to his time. |

and the fact he played with one of the most underrated players in NHL history and in a crappy SE division as well. Let's see him score 50 goals 6 or 7 straight years first then put him in Bossy category. |

So you used one Season to come to that flawed conclusion? Bossy scored 50+ goals in a Season 7 times, and I beleive he scored 60 + 4 times. But that was just because of when he played. Had zero to do with ability as a goal scorer. I would agree that Stamkos is an exception as a goal scorer to his time. But not as an overall scorer. Gretzky was both. And nothing you offered substantiates that if Bossy played today, that he wouldn't be able to match Stamkos as a goal scorer. Let alone Gretzky. |

Pronger's cap hit is 4.91M. They're already over by 2.5M. Add another 4M to that. Do the math. |

Jagr looked shot to me in the playoffs. And that is after a 48 game regular season. Jagr went 22 playoff games without a goal. I would be willing to bet he's never gone 22 consecutive games before in his life without scoring a goal prior. |

That makes you 4 years old in 1969 if my math is correct. Nope, you didn't see Orr in his prime. |

I don't think the Flyers should sign either player. But I'd choose Gagne if I had to make an choice. Zero interest in Jagr. |
