so players sign for too much, writers complain that salaries in the nhl are too high. coots signs with a bump in salary and a short term, and he screwed himself. so moral of the story...player signs a contract, writer complains. |

...So we are now complaining when Homer signs a player for too little?... I think Homer signed him for what he brings to the team as a defensive center, rather than banking on the offensive ability that everyone says is there but has not really shown up at the NHL Level, yet. |

Exactly, what a flawed concept. The Flyers sign a young player for a good Cap hit. Why would a team that's always tight against the Cap, want to keep a good young player with a Cap hit under 2M? It's obvious they did that so they can trade him! LOL |

Given the widespread interest around the NHL in Couturier, this is a case where re-signing for a number that I predict will ultimately see him as undervalued, only enhances the prospects that he becomes a prime trade target. - tpanaccio
If there is widespread interest, he is already a prime trade target. Not overpaying him keeps him one.
Really Tim, complaining about cost-effective contracts such as this one just makes it seem like you've run out of ideas.

Hey Tim, did you ever stop to think that Couturier may have taken less than what he could have gotten because he knows the team is always tight against the cap and he enjoys playing with this team. Take a little less to be happy where you are or maybe get a little more and hate where you went?
I can't believe you are actually complaining about the Flyers making a smart cap signing. Its unbelievable the crap you beat writers come up with. |

I don't think it's about Couturier taking a little less because of the team's cap situation. To speculate, if you look at the type of deals the Flyers sign young players to, there are two type of deals. One of a longer term, where the player might be overpaid early in the deal. But if he develops as the team feels he will, the player will be a bargian for the majority of the deal. Or the type of deal that Couturier signed. More market value, and for lesser term. Because the player feels he can command a much larger deal in the future, then if he signed a 5 or 6 year deal now. |

We're talking about a 20 year old Tim.
Agent: hey kid, the flyers want to pay you 3.5 million dollars to play 2 more years until your 23.
Coots: awesome, I can't even blow it on beer yet, but where do I sign? Oh. Like can you have someone call me about like buying a house and stuff.
How does subbans bridge deal look now? Their going to have to make him the highest paid dman in the game in a year. Sometimes on the surface the team doesn't always win |

Yep.
Nothing passes muster with that guy -- he always knows more than everybody else about everything else.
He's the kind of guy who, if you ask the time and someone answers 7 o'clock, he's looking at his watch and thinking, "Idiot, it's 7:01."

Know what the problem is? You can't get away from it, because now he'll stand on that bully pulpit until the end of time, because he'll double down once he realizes that everybody else thinks it's stupid that he said it.
That's been his act for years. He's one of the worst in Philly at it -- write something ridiculous, then say it enough times that the weak-minded trolls start to believe it, so then it becomes true.
Whenever his retirement is, it isn't soon enough. |

Ding ding ding, we have a winner! The team leaders aren't out boozing it up any more, and there's no batshiz crazy russians around to say silly things, thus there's no real drama to report on. So let's see if we can't stir the pot a bit! Typical Panotch... |
