Right now, the Flyers have 7 (if healthy) top-6 defensemen. Unless it's Meszaros and a mid-tier prospect or 4th+ round pick moving for him, I don't see the reason to add one more. - jmatchett383
It not about just adding to the numbers. It's about improving the D core.

We have puck movers now. Maybe next year when Kimmo retires. With Kimmo, Gus, and Streit, though, our core is balanced between shutdown stay-at-home and puck moving. |

As a tie-in, I wish we would have had Montreal Brashear and Calgary McCarthy. They were both good here, but they weren't the same terrors they were on their old teams. But I do love the McCarthy beating of Reid Simpson.

Wow. McCarthy was railin him. That's awesome. That's how you do it after someone cheapshots one of your teammates, as Dorny said.
You don't see that much anymore and it pisses me off, really.

If the opportunity presents itself to make the team better, it should be considered.

Give Cousins film of Brad Marchand and tell him that is what you want him to become. - Jsaquella

And what kind of players do you think the Flyers could trade for him that would make sense for the Leafs while making the Flyers a better team both now and in the long term? |

I guess you changed your mind? I think that's the difficult part. I think the cost of acquiring Franson would be too high. I think they'd ask for one of the Flyers young forwards. I like Franson, but not that much. Which is why I replied to the previous poster, that the cost for Franson would be higher then he suggested.

And that is why I would not want to move anything of significant value. If they want to move a player like Meszaros, who has past injury issues and is a FA this offseason, as well as one 2nd/3rd-tier asset, I'm all for it. Anything else doesn't seem to make much sense to me. |

And it's not even remotely close to a reasonable expectation for Cousin. Therefore changing Jsaq's post from Marchand to Ciccarelli is a pipe dream. Even hoping Cousin's can become the player that Marchand is a stretch. But not completely unreasonable. |

So showing him film of another fiery small guy who had no fear into going to the net and playing 6 inches and 25 pounds bigger than he was is not something you'd want him to emulate? I'm talking about the type of player I'd like him to play like, not score like.
I'm not sure where I'm saying I think he'll score even 300 goals. But as far as guys where you could show film and say, "Play like him," I think Dino is a fit. Same with Theo Fleury. |

The quote was to watch film and become the player. So you want him to become the player that Cicarelli was, except for the goal scoring part? Then there are other player that would make more sense as a comparison. It makes sense to assume that if you want a player to "become" a specific player, that all the attributes of that player would be part of that. Which is why I replied with basically stating that the suggestion of Cicarelli, is an unreasonable expectation. Fleury is another big time scorer. If your not scoring like they did, then your not playing like they did. |

I think having an expectation of Cousins becoming a player similar to Tyler Kennedy, Brandon Prust, or Danile Paille, is far more reasonable and realistic. Then Dino Ciccarelli or Theo Fleury.
