Would think Cousins would have won the OHL scoring title had that late suspension not have happened. Hopefully for him and the Flyers he rounds out his game and will be a contributor down the road.

Nice job Bill. I can see Cousins as hopefully a Keith Acton type: gritty, works the wall, sound defensively, kills penalties, agitates and chips in some offense. If he can get to that point, I think the Flyers would be very happy with him.

Once again, cause I'm bored. The top 10 fighters in Flyers history
1. Behn Wilson - just frankin scary dude, for you younger fans try to find a clip of any of his fights, his punch was awesome and he pretty much never lost.
2. Dave Schultz - perhaps the nastiest on the list, terrorized the league in the mid 70s.
3. Dave Brown - a lefty with a huge reach and a mean streak a mile wide
4. Paul Holmgren - could knock guys out just with his glare!
5. Eric Lindros - very few wanted to tangle with Big E.
6. Donald Brashear - could throw with the best of em
7. Craig Berube - The cheif could stand toe to toe with anyone and never backed down.
8. Dave Hoyda - wasn't with the club long, but man could he fight. Too bad he couldn't play a lick!
9. Jack MacIlhargey - Big, rugged and mean. Prototypical 70s Flyer.
10. Rick Macleish - Having the hawk on this list will surprise some, but man could he go. Rick didn't fight much, but when he did, he NEVER lost a fight.

If the Flyers resign themselves to be patient with Cousins, and he accepts his roles with 100% commitment, perhaps there will be a spot open in the near future.

If he works hard on his deficiencies, learns to play both ends of the ice, progresses positively, does not set an immediate timetable to make it to the show, he should get his opportunity.

You know, I never thought Schultz was that great of a fighter. Sure he fought a lot, and was as mean as anyone ever, but I think guys like Brown, Berube, and even MacIlhargey were better fighters. Hammer's known so well because he was the heel, he was the face of the BSB, not necessarily because he was all that good at it. I someone asked me the top 3 Flyers I'd be afraid of, it's Wilson, Brown, and Holmgren, as they seem like the 3 who could really hurt you.

I know it's not hockey related, but I felt the Eagles were going to have to play some amazing football this year to go 7-9. Now with their top receiver out for the year, I'm not sure if they can even get to 5-11 this year.

Great read as usual, Bill. Maybe he's more of a Steve Downie type. A guy who plays all over the lineup.

Between their D and the loss of Maclin 5-11 sounds about right. Hopefully another top 10 pick and another year for the young guys to develop will pay off big in the future.

In addition to on-ice and video work, Bryzgalov will “reveal secrets for correct mental preparation” and “explain the nuances of communication with the media".


His revealed "secrets and nuances" would be worth the price of admission.

I really don't think it's going to matter that much. Maclin is a good player and I would love to have him, but Kelly's offense really spreads the ball around. IMO, the team will rely on McCoy, Ertz and Jackson as the primary playmakers. Guys like Brown, D. Johnson, Casey and Celek will also be sprinkled in.

Good point. I guess I rated Schultz so high because of the impact his fighting had on the team. The Hammer, more than anyone, gave the Flyers their identity in the mid 70s and set the tone for the entire club. I still had to go with Wilson at #1 though, the dude was just a monster!

Brownie was the best fighter the Flyers had, and i would have put Carkner on this list over MacLeish.

Sorry, don't know if you actually saw Wilson fight, but I would put him up against anyone in any era. And for what it's worth, I saw Carkner lose a lot more fights than he won, while Macleish, at the least the 4 or 5 times I saw him go, kicked the crap out of whoever he was tangling with.

Hoping he can turn into a strong third line Talbot type, but I think that may be asking too much of him defensively.

I think too many of us are expecting too much from this kid.

Yes I have seen Wilson fight and Brownie was better....much better, he was stronger, handled his combatants better, had a better sense of balance. Wilson was good don't get me wrong, but he was not better than Brown.

Brown's advantage was his reach and the size of his hands. I may give him the edge, but Wilson's at least right there with him.
