They don't know what's happening. Stats like fenwick close can give a pretty good indicator of teams that will contend though.
2013-CHI's fenwick rating #2
2012-LA's fenwick rating #4
All fenwick really is, is possession. You out-possess the other team, you'll create more scoring chances. - TheNugeIsHuge
Curious to see what comes out over the next few days/weeks/months.
Not sure I really like this move.
Just to clarify my stance. Khaira was a very raw long shot prospect when we drafted him. One that needed time developing, has a lot of tools though. I just don't understand how he goes from that to signing a pro deal in one year.
Had a great year no doubt, but the kid is still 18 for week or so. He is going to be a very young man in a mans game in the AHL or ECHL. Would've liked some more time in College to work on those things that lead him to being a BCHL hockey player.

I don't get the move. Let him round out his game. He won't be NHL ready at 19. EDM isn't great with young prospects in OKC

As for Khaira signing with the Oilers, IMO he's just not ready for the pro game yet. A poster earlier mentioned his skating, which is one area of his game that needs to improve. But the biggest thing IMO he needs to improve is in being able to make quicker decisions/reactions with and without the puck. He'll be able to do that eventually, but the question is how quickly will be able to make that adjustment/improvement. Having said that, I wish Khaira all the best with the Oilers organization. It was a real pleasure watching him at MTU. I just wished that he and the Oilers would've made this decision earlier because it puts the Huskies in a situation where they'll be scrambling to fill Khaira's spot on such short notice, especially with school coming back in within a few weeks.

Strikes me that college is very technical defensively and very system oriented. Might have been the better place to improve on his decision making...

Ward doesn't happen until they see how Erat works out.
Brodizak doesn't work because of cap
Upshall, could very well work. I'd try also target the much mentioned Goc or Bergenehim as well. 2 for 1?
Stoll, rumor has it he was cleared to fly to a charity golf tourney a week or so ago. As much as I love the style he plays that's just a waste of a deal as it stands today. Again salary is an issue as well.
Stafford, makes sense. Especially given the fact that Stafford has extra year of salary, so BUF could very well make the deal based on that. - Lahey
Upshall would be interesting in that he's probably considered an even bigger negative than Hemsky in terms of fulfilling his contract, esp with that extra year. I like the whole reclammation project game, and I feel like we'd have a better chance at coming out ahead especailly if we could get Upshall and Bergenheim in a Hemsky deal. Although with Bergenheim even with bad blood I think they'd have us add a small something.

Which is fine, but I'm sick of hearing how these stats are the gospel and that's the only thing that can give you a true measure of what's happening.
If it's that's simple why aren't these guys millionaires from gambling? I mean they know what's going to happen so why not put your life savings on such a sure thing. - Lahey
That's a question I couldn't get a straight answer from anyone about.
They say from the data collected/simulations run possession maps really well onto winning and losing. But how many years of teams like Toronto and Anaheim with poor underlying stats would there have to be before you start looking at what those teams do well that might counteract it? It seems like half of buying into Fenwick as the be-all and end-all is believing that poor fenwick teams that do well are simply "lucky", and I don't believe in luck that much.

Someone threw out that they think he'll get dealt to the Oil Kings. Makes sense. - Lahey
I feel like he's gotta be going to the AHL.
If they were going to send him to the WHL (still elligible) or ECHL, he'd stay in NCAA and enjoy his free college. I can't speak for the kid but WHL seems like a waste of time.

I'd assume a dump and chase gives you a worse Fenwick as well, but doesn't mean that you are as bad as the numbers say.

I can't see him making the AHL though. He is only 18 right now. How many non-elite guys that young can play in the AHL?

I wonder if the Oil gave him a decent signing bonus to leave school. The one problem with the College route is Khaira never would really get that shot at getting mean streak. Going to the Dub or ECHL will allow him to grow his physical aspect of his game.
Problem is another year of College focusing on skating would've probably been better.
