It's been said many times....

Anyway's it was just an example. People see similarities in players/teams and assume the exact same outcome will prevail. Truth is it very rarely turns out the same.

- The-O-G

Agreed.

It's probably been said the same amount of times that "Hall, Eberle and Nuge are the new Gagner, Cogliano, and Nilsson" was said. And that had almost zero to go on (playing style, talent, pedigree) except for the fact that they each played for the oilers.

For the record Cogliano is probably going to level out as a 35-40 point a year guy who has a good Corsi and can play PK. I never had anything against him other than that he was emblematic of our lack of team strength.

Last I checked 63 points trumps 51.

And I stand by it.....he has a better chance to be Marty Murray than Fleury or St. Louis.

Are you a well known troll? One of the few accts I've come across that are older than my own yet I've never seen you around. Anyway, back to the topic, I don't think Gerbe has ever had a 63 pt. season in any of his seasons college or otherwise. Are you referring to his 68 pt 3rd year @ BC? If so, then you are comparing his 68pts to the 51 that Johnny had in his 2nd year... See any problems with this?

I'd put Klimchuk ahead of Gaudreau.
Gaudreau will be lucky to have a career like Gerbe...nevermind top 6 scorer.

- stormey

Lol you've never seen Johnny hockey play. I think guedreau has a shot at being an undersized top line winger if he is able to move past the height problem and adjust to the nhl game

The Flames have some decent D prospects but they are still a few years behind the Oilers ones. Tough to tell exactly what they are right now.
- The-O-G

I don't doubt it. People act like if you don't alternate through drafting each position you're automatically making a mistake...

...forgetting of course that
- Pittsburgh drafted 3 centers with three of their lottery picks and traded away their lottery defenseman within four seasons.
- Chicago drafted Cam Barker 3rd and he played no part in their rebuild
- The Nordiques used 5 consecutive top 5 picks on forwards in the lead up to their cup.

One of the things I would have changed is poirer though. I think he has top six two way RW potential. You also noted that his skating needed work meanwhile it's one of his strongest assets. He may be calgarys fastest prospect. Look up a couple youtube videos of him and you'll see how he utilizes his speed and size

Although Poirier can be quick...hes not the "strongest" skater, physically... which has been a knock on his game so far. He may skate well, but isnt physical on his skates which Frenchie must have meant.

You left out that Gaudreau only played 35 games last year to Gerbe's 41 during his second season.....

At the end of the day it's a pretty useless argument, college stats are pretty irrelevant. But I hate when people make assumptions about player.

"Oh Gaudreau is small, plays NCAA, for the same team, he must be EXACTLY like Nathan Gerbe"

No, he probably isn't. He's a completely different person/player.

- The-O-G

Though I see some simiarlities in the development of both Gerbe and Gaudreau, youre right...not the same type of player here.

We all expect people to be homers, hell I am, but I also try to be objective. As objective as I can be when discussing my favorite team that is. Its the people on who are relentless homers to the point of nothing but trolling. Every fan base has em and there are tonnes on here. Discussing and ranking the development of teenagers is a crap shoot at best, comparing one player to another as a way of predicting an outcome is foolish anyways.

I still think he should have gone to the USHL like he originally planned. The jump in competition was obviously a bit much. He should look better next season...might even make the Canadian WJC's...though he's a bit of a longshot.
- AdamFrench

Poor kid hasn't had much of a chance fo play his natural position at C either in college or at WJC training camp. I'm very curious how he does this year.

As fir world juniors, so much could depend on who is available when it starts. The kid can skate and has size/reach. 2 attributes Sutter said he needed in Sweden.

*sigh*

He's a short player who dominated College hockey.
Gerbe is a short player who actually had better numbers playing for the same program.

I also think you're cute....you have no idea what you are talking about...but cute none-the-less.

He has a better chance to be Marty Murray than Theo Fleury.

He has amazing breakaway speed, but you notice he never gets to that gear unless he has a clear path. He doesn't do well when he needs to move side to side, in a straight line he's fast as all hell, but when people get near him he slows himself and looks labored. Odd I know, just something I feel is a weakness when watching him.

Stormey a troll??? I've never seen any evidence of that.

Check out NHL Young Guns Daily on twitter @YoungGunsDaily. They covered Poirier, Monohan, Gaudreau, Wotherspoon and Klimchuk as well as Brossoit, Ramage, & Ferland as prospects. Adam gives great reports, but check it out anyway for a few more depth prospects.
