12/13 - 89 hits, 98 blocked shots
11/12 – 137 hits, 143 blocked shots
10/11 – 203 hits, 140 blocked shots
You assume those correlate with winning though, why? |

Watch smart players like Corey Perry just peel off when the puck is moving toward Murray. If you don't, your season can be effectively over in an instant. Just ask Visnovsky what happened in San Jose a couple of years ago. And just back away boys, Murray is a beast better left alone. |

not so much winning as filling a hole that Vancouver has on D.
Their issue in the past few years has been size on the back end and getting pushed around. Murray helps with that and the hits and shot blocks generally come with a player that does both those things. |

So what, we sign him and leave the gaping holes on the 3rd /4th line open, hoping/praying that Schroeder can fill the 3c spot and we have no injuries?
Yikes, as much as I liked like to have that beast back there, I feel we have bigger gaps to fill.
Unless Tanevs rights are traded. |

He has footspeed like Alberts, but Alberts had some good games last year. At 1.5 Mil I would take him . He would be excellent against guys like Lucic and Chara |

I'd take Murray for $1M. He'd be an upgrade over Alberts and as Ian said, he fills a very specific need on the Canucks' backend.
I still don't think it's coincidence the reports of their interest in Murray came out the day after Tanev's agent said there was lots of interest in the KHL and Europe. I think their ultimate goal is still to get Tanev signed, but Murray could be a good backup plan. |

Gilman said minutes ago they are not going after any new forwards, all positions will be filled by existing players at forward. |

Ian Esplen: Douglas Murray?
Yes Please - IanEsplen
He's no speedster, but he's not a "bad skater". He actually skates exceptionally well for being enormous.
He's not signed yet because he, like Peter Mueller, for some reason think they can still get multi year deals. |

Murray certainly helped the Penguins against Lucic and Chara in the playoffs.

Had nothing to do with Fluery letting in shots from center?

your d is not the worst, murray would be fine, but he's not going to sign for 1 million. a better option is brad boyes, he plays well when surrounded by talent, sure he would sign a 2 million per contract. I'm sure Boyes and Murray are being discussed by Gillis and co. |

I'd rather sign Mueller. If Corrado is making this team and Tanev will get signed then I'd definitely prefer Mueller(can play wing/center, decent player, shootout specialist, not a small guy either). |

We basically have one hole up front at the moment. 3C, which they have basically said will be left open for a rookie (Gaunce, Schroeder, Horvat) to seize.
We also have one hole on D at the moment. Tanev's spot. If Tanev won't sign for what he's worth then we need to fill it with someone. Murray would be a good option.
Tanev's rights have virtually zero value. |

I'd be happy with that. |

We also have Weber a RHD for the powerplay so we still need a tough 6/7 Dman |

If I am Gilman, seeing all D spots can be filled with the current roster, I wait until Tanev is ready to sign at 1.2 mil. I guess he could go to the KHLbut offersheets are not coming in. |

If Tanev is signed and Corrado makes the team, the defense looks pretty set to me.
Hamhuis - Bieksa
Edler - Corrado/Tanev
Garrison - Corrado/Tanev
Weber
I think Mueller would help this team more than Murray. |

slowest player in hockey. weird that he would want to go to vancouver, he should wait to go to a cup contender. |

I don't see why a KHL team would be too interested in him. He's not a well known player in the NHL, let alone internationally. Seems like BS coming from his agent. And I doubt the KHL would offer him too much money either and it's definitely not worth plying in the KHL compred to the NHL unless you feel comfortable living in Russia, not being close with teammates/understanding the language as a foreigner, being away from all of your family and friends and not getting the first class treatment as god as NHL players do from their organization on road trips and such. |

I don't think he'll go to the KHL for a few extra hundred grand, or extra years. I think he'll sign at the number they're offering because he has no choice. His biggest mistake was hiring an agent because he basically just gave away 3-5% for nothing. |

Agreed. This is his new agent just grasping at straws right now. Going to the KHL would be an awful decision for him. |
