Morning Bill
That looked painful.
And in the previous 20 seconds there was a missed hit where the attacking payer went really low into the boards. if he had made contact and not flat out missed, he would have taken the guys head off. Are the euro leagues policing that they way the NHL is? |

Bill,
What do you think the chances are the team carries 8 dmen on their NHL roster? I would be very happy to see Bourdon make the club as the 8th guy assuming Mez isn't traded. This obviously means Gervais would be waived. - mochoson
The Flyers may be forced to carry Bourdon on IR or LTIR if he's not medically cleared before the start of the Season. If he is declared healthy, I think the chances are slim that he makes the team.

If Bourdon is cleared, I'd rather see him on the Phantoms, playing significant minutes, rather than be in the press box, snagging Tim Panaccio Dr Peppers. |

Well he's certainly on the outside looking in for obvious reasons, but I wouldn't definitively say his chances are "slim". I dont see why the team wouldn't carry 8 defensemen, especially with two oft-injured who are looking to re-establish themselves.
Carrying both Bourdon and Mez gives us tremendous depth, and Gervais more than likely goes unclaimed if after 10-15 games or so one of them is traded.

I don't necessarily disagree; missing as much time as he has, the best move would be to certainly have him on the ice whenever possible.
However, you just have to hope he goes unclaimed. I'd like to think he would, but you never know. I'd just hate to see the Flyers have invested a decent pick and all this time into a player only to have him be oft-injured basically his entire tenure and end up thriving somewhere else because he was waived. |

I don't think they will carry 8. When Bourdon gets medical clearance, he will get a conditioning stint with Phantoms and then (if NHL blueline is healthy) get waived and assigned to the Phantoms. No recall waivers needed anymore. |

Given that he's still having symptoms, I think that he could pass waivers fairly easily. Not many teams lining up to snag a 6th defenseman who has had concussion symptoms since 2011.
Also, since there's no recall waivers, he can be recalled with no risk
EDIT *that he could pass waivers fairly easy AFTER getting cleared medically. Can't waive him until then anyhow |

Depends on the league. Player safety initiatives in the KHL is are still pretty much lip service. On play where Vasiliev got hurt, the ref saw the play right in front of him and didn't even call so much as a crosschecking minor.

What's his current status as we approach camp? Does it look like he is going to be cleared prior to the start of camp?
I'd really like to see him cleared and get in a full-camp followed by the likely conditioning stint you've suggested. I'm not even a huge Bourdon fan, but his skills and age are tough to ignore in today's NHL. If he can rebound and still be an effective bottom pairing defender, that would help the Flyers immensely. I'd much rather have a guy like him with a little more pro experience playing over Lauridsen or Konan. And I just hate Gervais.
If he can get a full camp in and remain healthy through a conditioning stint it would be great news. If he plays well, it opens the door for a trade and the (hopeful) signing of Gagne. |

Salary Cap reasons is one reason why. What good does it do for Bourdon, who hasn't played much Hockey lately, to be a scratch in the press box? If he's not going to see playing time on the Flyers. Then they should send him through waivers, which he'll probably clear. So he can play on the Phantoms, get some playing time, and get his career started again. There are no recall waivers anymore. So he can be called up at any time, with no risk.
If Bourdon is declared healthy, and plays his way into the top 7 defenseman, then so be it. But it's not very likely.

Plus his contract is one way, which makes it even more likely that he would clear waivers.

Lauridsen and Konan would be call ups. So would Bourdon if he clears and is assigned to the Phantoms. Bourdon doesn't have to make the Flyers to be ahead of those two on the depth chart.
Nothing wrong with Gervais in a 7th defenseman role. |

Don't see much of a point carrying 8. If MAB is cleared to play, I'd rather having him playing that taking up the seat in the Cote/Shelley deluxe suite. |

Sad about Selivanov and Selivanov's wife, Carrie. That's WAY too young.
On a different note, the anecdote I always remember about Selivanov was the one I heard on a broadcast where it was said that Selivanov was called "Son-in-law-of" around the organization because of the marriage to Espo's daughter. |

I tried to like it. I really did. It's loud, it's packed shoulder-to-shoulder whenever there's a game on, it's overpriced, the food sucks, there's extremely limited seating, the service is piss...I just can't do it. It made me, sadly, realize how nice Chickie's & Pete's was by comparison. |

It's OK. I'm not a huge fan. I live in South Jersey and if I wanted post game beers, I usually head towards a watering hole closer to home.
The one good thing XFinity live is good for (for me, at least) is if I'm meeting someone at an event, I can simply meet them there and have a place to drink while I wait. |

It's also extremely dangerous. There are attacks (physical and sexual) and security may call an ambulance but they won't call the police (they don't want it on the record how bad it gets). So it's like a little paradise for gibrones who want to misbehave. It's not a place I'll go (and I'm not their target demographic anyway) but it's also not a place young people should go without a serious posse. |
