Lundqvist is the sexy choice, but he's overrated. The guy has never taken the Rangers anywhere. I'd take 3 guys over him. - dshiddy
I agree, the guy wears massive upper body pads and plays very deep in his net in a system that plays a slop collapse system and shot blocking mentality to minimize quality chances to him
We'll see how he pans out under AV now with all that crap gone |

That's (frank)ing comical. There were at least 3-4 years in which Kipper alone was better than Luo, and that's ignoring guys like Thomas, Vokoun, Backstrum etc. I'm not an idiot, I know Luo is/was world class but try to relax on the sensationalism. - IggyOnly

I'd have to look, but aren't Chara and Dougie both RH?
two RHD on one PP, I wouldn't do that. - IanEsplen
The Caps do that and had the highest PP % in the league last year. |

true, but Green is a whole lot more mobile then what Boston has. That allows them to have better movement.
When I've watched the B's it's RD, LD blast or LD, RD blast. You can't really do that if the D are the same hand.

Plus the Canucks regularly put two LHD out on the PP together, or even worse, one LHD and one LHF. Too much gets made of which way a player holds their stick... |

not IMO, you need the points to be able to load up the one-timer. That is a lot harder to do with two players shooting left.
IMO, playing Edler with Garrison last year pretty much meant one was usless. |

It holds some validation, but the Caps roll Ovi and Green at the points. It's funny too, because Oates is almost obsessed with keeping right-handed shots on the right and vice-versa..it's why he moved Ovi to right wing. But he still has two righties on the points for the PP. |

I disagree, I don't think it is any more difficult for a LHD (or any player for the matter) from the left point to feed a nice pass over to the right point for a one time shot (or vice versa if your shooter is on the left side). As far as making one useless, that's the PP coach's job, and a reason why he got fired. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that Garrison was not on the first unit until quite late in the season, when the PP actually started to do some damage. |

The way that a player shoots has different advantages/disadvantages depending on the zone that they are playing in. For instance, a right handed forward coming down the left wing has, IMO, a better angle at the net than if they shoot from the right side. Keith Ballard is a good example of a LHD who just doesn't adjust well on his off side, as he seemed unable to take a pass on his backhand coming out of the defensive zone. So for a defenceman, being on your "natural" side in the defensive zone can be an advantage when trying to break out, but it can also be a disadvantage during defensive zone coverage as your stick will be away from the net (and where the puck is likely to go) instead of towards the net.
So, what I'm saying here is that it sounds like Oates is trying to capitalize on the advantages of each situation, rather than just having guys in the positions they are "supposed" to play in. |

I believe he started the season on te top unit, but Edler was teeing it up all the time without even looking to pass, so they tried other players out there with him. |

So Johnathan "we are going to expose them for what they really are" Toews thinks Luongo is best goalie in the league?
I find that odd considering that the majority of Luongo's meltdowns have come against Chicago.
I guess Toews just likes pumping tires. |

To me Lundqvist is a clear head above everyone right now, he's the best and he's been there for a long time. In the new NHL the team in front of the goalie makes a bigger difference than in the late 90's where a team could play the trap in front of a top goalie and win 1-0. - ky678468
Nah... he is not clear and above everyone else. He's arguably the best goalie but he won't stay for long. Anderson and Lehner IMO is the best goalie tandem in the entire league. The NHL's best goalie prospect Robin Lehner (Sens back-up) will get to play 20-30 games this season, helping Anderson to maintain his rediculous save percentage and GAA. Lehner is a really great goaltender at the age of only 22 and his dad was Lundqvist's goalie coach for many years. For now, Lundqvist is arguably no.1 but I think that can change very easily.
