Probably the next time he blows by Schenn on the rush again.
Seriously though, JvR doesn't have near as much 'hates to lose' as Schenn does, so I still feel very comfortable with that trade, even though they still probably should have been able to shake a little bit more out of Tarantah at the time. - Tomahawk
Agreed.
I don't think it was as important for JVR to find another team as it was for Schenn. His wore out his welcome in TO. I also felt we should've squeezed a bit more from that deal. |

ehn... he's slightly above average. JVR will probably round into a perennial All Star. |

That's true. I think I started it.

Don't feel bad, I started the Fire Laviolette bandwagon.
It's not even that I want him fired, necessarily. I just want him to make adjustments, because what he's doing isn't working against the Rangers and Devils.
Last year, they adjusted down the stretch and it was obvious-the forwards weren't opening up a huge gap between them & the defense and it not only improved the defense, it helped them offensively, too. |

Luke Schenn isn't the type of player that makes all star teams. The trade was made full well knowing that JVR was a very good player. They wouldn't have been able to acquire Schenn without giving up a very good player. And Luke Schenn is far better then slightly above average. |

I think Schenn is above that, and will get even better.
I think JVR will be a good goal-scorer in this league, but perennial All-Star? I have my doubts. |

Oh I adore G. His "I'm plotting something evil" grin is infectious. He's amazing to watch play and it looks like he'll be here a long time.
But he's the big name. I'll let some of the more mainstream fans buy his jersey. It's a touch riskier because of trades but I'm thinking a defenseman.
All that said, the long sleeve T-shirt I wear under my jersey is a Giroux shirt. - FlyersGrace
I got my Giroux Jersey in 2010, before he was a big name. I told my wife to get the JVR jersey.... |

How dare you suggest the coach might not be up to snuff....he won a Stanley Cup once.
Of course he followed that with three straight non playoff years, but, let's only look at the good stuff |

The team just can't move the puck out of their own zone. Nothing is crisp and the team is forced to just dump the puck into the neutral zone. Even when the forwards come back, they have no one to move the puck to up ice.
They simply don't have enough talented defenseman. Most of their defenseman are only good defensively or offensively. |

I feel the same. I'd much rather see Laviolette adjust and have success here. And it still remains to be seen. Maybe this team will be able to play his style and be succussful with it. But I have my doubts. I think they can be a playoff team certainly. But if they meet up against a certain type of team in the playoffs, that plays the way the Devils do, I think there will be an issue without those adjustments. I don't beleive that the Devils have better players then the Flyers do. |

No he's not. He's tied up hanging drywall in our back bathroom. With his back that's at least a 6 month job. |

Down the stretch last season, when Coburn, Meszaros and Grossmann were out and they used Gervais, Gustafsson, Manning and Lauridsen in the top six, they went 11-5 and beat 9 playoff teams. They had a solid transition game because they adjusted what they were doing.
I counted, just in the first period, 5 times where they came out of the zone last night and there were 2 or 3 Devils between the defenseman carrying the puck and the nearest Flyer forward. You can't do that often and suspect success, talented defensemen or not. |

That's the other thing-it's not as if the Devils are running out their 2000 or 2003 Cup roster out there at forward. They have some solid guys, but few suprstars, and their defense is similar to the Flyers on paper. But they support the puck so much better than the Flyers do. |
