That's odd to me, because they're not going to be that bad -- Scott Hartnell looked healthy and in shape last night, Claude Giroux looked good, Mark Streit looked like he can really move the puck in a way that the team needs, Sean Couturier looked a lot more powerful in his first three steps, Ray Emery looked really sharp and confident...there were a lot of good things that I saw.

And oh, my gosh: That power play is going to be lethal. You can already see it.

They're going to have a playoff season, I feel. I don't see Laviolette getting fired early, because I think they're going to play well early. They haven't quit on him, and they're better than last year.

Now this I agree with. I also expect them to be a playoff team. However should they meet say the Rangers in round one, struggle to score at even strength and go down in 5 or 6 games, I think a coaching change would then be made.

The point is that since Lava has been coach we have gone through a ton of players, and still see the same BS results on the ice. The forwards sit in the middle third on the break out, they cant play against defensive hockey clubs and over the past 3 seasons have been pretty unspectacular in the playoffs.

2011 eeked out a series win against a pretty crappy Sabres club, and then were swept by the Bruins.

2012 beat Pitt in a terrible hockey series (very fun to watch) and then got destroyed by the Devils.

2013 were cellar dwellers for most of the season and missed the playoffs.

Total won-loss record of 9-13.

Okay, but in 2011 they Flyers were a really good team until Pronger got hurt right?

2012, again no Pronger.

2013, no Pronger, no Carle.

Hopefully this year with Streit and Gus they should be able to play better.

Im 50/50 with the club. I dont think we are as stacked as some suggest, but I also am not as down on the club as some.

The thing that scares me the most is that we are really depending on Couts and Schenn to break out, and Jake and Wayne to continue their progress.. If not, our offense goes from a strong point to meh.

That I can see -- they have to look like they can win a Cup in the next two years, if/when they make the playoffs. Making the playoffs won't save Laviolette if they get drilled when they're in them and it smells like it's a system failure.

You have to be able to adjust. Losing Pronger was terrible. He is a first ballot HOF defenseman.. but when he left Anaheim the team was able to move on... Changes need to be made. They were already made to the roster.. lets see whats next.

I am not saying I want to see Lava fired. Not at all. But if things don't change, and we see more of last night.. Its gonna have to happen.

As good as our PP and PK are, I think our 5 on 5 play still needs work, and until we fix that there may be issues making the playoffs. It's still preseason though. Set the roster, play the starters like the game means something, and see what we have.

ok, i'll bite. don't you think it's possible that a professional athlete "just doesn't care"? isn't it possible, just possible, that a players doesn't play the way he is being told to play?
- hammarby31

One professional athlete? Certainly. An entire team, where with basically the same core group of players, just doesn't care? Do you think that's the case here? Do you think the reason why this team has had the same issues for the better part of 2 years, is because they don't care? As a whole? Not likely. This isn't a case of players not playing how they're told to play. It's a case of the players playing how they're told to play from a systems perspective.
Young kids just might not care, and are just out to have some fun. Or just aren't capable of doing what they're told to do.

Asperger syndrome is distinguished by a pattern of symptoms rather than a single symptom. It is characterized by qualitative impairment in social interaction, by stereotyped and restricted patterns of behavior, activities and interests, and by no clinically significant delay in cognitive development or general delay in language.
- youarewrong[28] Intense preoccupation with a narrow subject, one-sided verbosity, restricted prosody, and physical clumsiness are typical of the condition, but are not required for diagnosis

Enough.
I've had my disagreements as well but I'll defend his knowledge of the CBA and I wouldn't ever question his desire to see this team win. Ultimately we are all here cuz no one else would listen to us prattle on about our favorite team.

So from what I gather, Giroux needs to be stripped of the captaincy and benched. That about right?

You think all professional athletes care about what the coach tells them? You really are delusional!
- aantny88

We're not talking about all professional athletes. We're talking about the players as a whole on this team. Do you think that they have these issues because every player on the team doesn't care? All 23 or whatever of them? So what thought is delusional?

i'm familiar with this unfortunately. my half-brother supposedly has this syndrome. i don't buy it completely. i think he's partially been conditioned to think he's not "normal".

The Cavalier will definitely help in that regard, but the bigger piece of the puzzle, and the key to getting to the next level, is the progression of Schenn and Couts.

Well they are going to be terrible for the next 3-4 years.. and Connor McDavid is coming up the ranks as well as a few other gems.
