Gus scared me last night. Lots of mistakes...
I thought Mez was better than Gus was. But this wasn't a good pre-season game for Mez.
On a good note Coburn looked solid, Grossmann was throwing bodies around, and Timmonen was quietly spectacular.
Jury is still out on Streit for me. He had some good plays and some shake your head ones..

im not afraid about the rangers being as stiffling as they were under torts....New jersey on the other seems to get more stiffling every year...

They will need to win a lot of 2-1 games, but if they stick to the system, I think they'll be better than people think.. DeBoer is a solid coach and he def knows how to beat the Flyers.

He was the whipping boy in my section last year. Loved when it was his partner or the forward who made the mistake and people still blamed him. Drove me nuts.

On a completely different side note I need to replace my Briere jersey now that he has moved onto the land of little people.
I want a defenseman this time. Considering Schenn or Grossmann. But I think I'll wait till after we "trade" someone. I would hate to jinx someone into a trade cuz I bought their jersey.

I suspect they may be the same people who sream shoot shoot on the PP, like it's a basketball game. Coburn was good. I think we'll see a good year from him now that we don't need him to be a puck mover.

There's also the fact that while almost every hockey player will describe their main focus as "doing what's best for the team", in practice most are understandably more preoccupied with personal goals like winning/protecting a job/role, moving up the lineup, winning coveted PP time, managing energy/injuries, building personal stats with a mind toward contract negotiations, etc.

Especially in preseason... while guys probably aren't actively sabotaging each other on the ice, you can bet that forwards in a roster battle are cheating up the ice just that extra little bit, or turning up the ice a split second sooner than they usually would. A guy like Laughton is probably not going to pass Raffl the puck on a 2-on-1 either. Likewise, vets with nothing to worry about are trying to toe the line between showing enough effort to not get called out, while putting as little wear and tear on their bodies as possible.

That's pretty much why preseason is nothing to panic over, even if the Devils are giving us PTSD flashbacks.

With a guy like Streit, an offensive specialist, that comes with the territory. You have to hope the scoring chances, point shots and puck-carrying ability outweigh the negatives.

I'd seriously consider Timmonen. Only problem is that he could retire any minute and I'm right back in this boat. I wish I had the money to get them all...
