On a completely different side note I need to replace my Briere jersey now that he has moved onto the land of little people.
I want a defenseman this time. Considering Schenn or Grossmann. But I think I'll wait till after we "trade" someone. I would hate to jinx someone into a trade cuz I bought their jersey.
Thoughts? Who would you pick?

I just got a vinny jersey. Had a lot of trouble ordering it from NHL.com because they don't update their site with what jerseys are available and they just kept cancelling my orders and letting me guess instead of saying, we are our of all home jerseys or have this size avail...

Schenn would be a nice one. No love for Giroux?

Maybe that too...

There's also the fact that while almost every hockey player will describe their main focus as "doing what's best for the team", in practice most are understandably more preoccupied with personal goals like winning/protecting a job/role, moving up the lineup, winning coveted PP time, managing energy/injuries, building personal stats with a mind toward contract negotiations, etc.

Especially in preseason... while guys probably aren't actively sabotaging each other on the ice, you can bet that forwards in a roster battle are cheating up the ice just that extra little bit, or turning up the ice a split second sooner than they usually would. A guy like Laughton is probably not going to pass Raffl the puck on a 2-on-1 either. Likewise, vets with nothing to worry about are trying to toe the line between showing enough effort to not get called out, while putting as little wear and tear on their bodies as possible.

That's pretty much why preseason is nothing to panic over, even if the Devils are giving us PTSD flashbacks.

I'd seriously consider Timmonen. Only problem is that he could retire any minute and I'm right back in this boat. I wish I had the money to get them all...

Matchett #55

I fully expect my darling daughter-to-be to be the first ever woman defenseman to play in the NHL, and I will murder any other team's GM who would try to obtain her.

Of course, you've got an 18-to-20-year wait.

But really, I'd wait maybe 2 years and see about Morin/Ghost/Hagg.

Problem with that is that I suspect that he won't keep #55.

Timmonen, it's good forever.

With a guy like Streit, an offensive specialist, that comes with the territory. You have to hope the scoring chances, point shots and puck-carrying ability outweigh the negatives.
- bradleyc4

From last night, Streit was a completely different player on the man advantage, it's like he hit the NOS. At ES, I was wondering when Bruno Gervais changed his jersey to #32.

We have the guy in my section who feels it's his job to yell stuff at the goaltender.

If it's clever, then great.....but mostly, it's not clever.

Any thoughts Ek's Flyers "may" be close to getting rid of a D-man?
Beyond the stating of the obvious?

- FlyersGrace

I don't see it happening. Meszaros has no trade value, and if we trade Grossmann then we have to count on Meszaros and Gustafsson as the third pair.

He hasn't, but if does, as many are calling for, he'll pretty much be signing his own death certificate in Philly. I suspect he's smart enough to live and die by his current methods, and then reflect/adjust while he's looking for his next gig.
- Tomahawk

Scotty Bowman, one of the greatest Coaches in the history of the sport, frequently changed his systems play depending on the personell at hand. In fact on some teams, he had one line playing a completely different way then other lines did. He brought over elements of the Torpedo system to the Red Wings, but realized that he couldn't play that way with every line. A Coach who ignores the same problems in multiple years, and doesn't adjust. Isn't being very smart.

That's insanely stupid. I'd tell people to F in learn the game and then I'd be watching from seats in heaven.

See, I couldn't get a Vinny jersey just yet. He hasn't done anything in a Flyers jersey as of yet.

It was the same with Jagr when he first got here. I really didn't understand the rush to get a jersey of a guy who hadn't accomplished anything in a Flyers uniform.

If I was going to buy a jersey today (I have two....one with my last name that I never wear anymore and an orange Giroux jersey), I'd probably go with Kimmo Timonen and then, maybe Hartnell.

There was some jackaninny at the season opener last year who couldn't wait to scream, "YOU SUCK BRYZ!" The first shot of the year was a tester and he made a nice kick save, to be answered by "YOU SUCK BRYZ!" to which me and about 5 people yelled at what a great save it was. Best part was his GF just got up and left him by midway through the second.

Oh I adore G. His "I'm plotting something evil" grin is infectious. He's amazing to watch play and it looks like he'll be here a long time.
But he's the big name. I'll let some of the more mainstream fans buy his jersey. It's a touch riskier because of trades but I'm thinking a defenseman.
All that said, the long sleeve T-shirt I wear under my jersey is a Giroux shirt.

Hard to say. They haven't even inducted a player who didn't play in the 80s yet.

I particularly hate when someone picks on the tender only. Again, the team in front of him usually has as much to do with a goal as he does.

I hope ghost turns out well. I'm all over that jersey for the name alone.
But it's not a bad reasoning on any of the new guys. Alt would be fun as well. Could be your 2nd jersey...

And I see your daughter is going to have wonderful influences in her life.

I keep them all if the cap allows. Agreed on Mesz. At this point, we may just have to hope he gets his act together and helps us.

In my house we have a joke... Last game some of my friends went to one guy next to them stood up and yelled "SIMMONDS!" everytime Simmonds touched the puck. So now they do it when watching on TV at my house to crack themselves up. So there are still random "SIMMONDS" shout outs, at my home... Luckily this makes me smile.

The dude in my section that starts the "MARTY!" chants for Martin Brodeur....

...I mean, does that guy know that Marty Brodeur has routinely stolen the Flyers' lunch money for about 20 years now?

I didn't see the game, but I'm not surprised. Similar to sentiments echoed by an informed Isles acquaintance.

Not a great even-strength player, but I believe there was some evidence that it was his partner -- typically Matt Carkner, I believe -- that was making him look bad. Streit's WOWY's last year looked pretty good.

I haven't decided yet. The fiancee has an away jersey. I might go home just to keep it clearly differentiated. My Briere one was one of the black ones and I won't get another one.

Solid choices and rationale.
