Can we at least wait until the inevitable injury on defense before we put Andrej Meszaros back in? - AllInForFlyers
Meszaros hasn't been great, but he hasn't been the worst d-man thus far. Timonen and Schenn have been worse. |

Sadly we all know that it won't be long... |

Honest question: Why would you compare Craig Berube to Bill Barber as a coach? - johndewar
Just some of the phrasing he uses. Barber was famous for "we got to do a better job". Berube hasn't used that exact phrase but for some reason the whole situation reminds me of the Bill Barber era before it all went bad.
Again, like I said, I hope I'm wrong. They are playing much better 5 on 5 and Rome wasn't built in a day.... |

I'd be happy if most of our dmen were just playing well, let alone great.

I thought the Detroit game was pretty exciting. They generated more offense at ES than they had all season. If not for all the dumb penalties they could have got a result.
Watching Coburn complain to the refs after he clearly high sticked that guy right in the face was maddening. Him, Kimmo, Meszaros, Simmonds and Rinaldo have given away far too many minor penalties so far this season. |

Timonen's been bad, but at least I can pretend he'll be better. I saw Luke Schenn play well for, what, 40 or so games out of 48, last season.
I honestly don't think Meszaros has done anything to warrant a place in the lineup, though I recognize that others see it differently. If/when Meszaros gets back in the lineup, I hope he does something, anything, to impact the outcome of the game.
I'm trying, really, really, hard, to find common ground on this issue. Because I really don't think he brings anything to the table. |

Hopefully Mason will continue his stellar play and we will pull off a win tomorrow night against Vancouver. It's always fun to watch Tortorella when he's losing?
BTW, the North American hockey media are just clueless. I was listening to NHL radio this morning and the 2 clowns were busting on Mason, calling him a backup at best. Amazing, the one guy who has played well this year for the Flyers is the one they decide to criticize. Oh well, why am I even surprised? |

It would be easier for me to believe that Timonen will get better if he wasn't 38 years old, undersized and hadn't lost a step. I love the guy, but I think he has reached the end. Not that Mezaros is any prize either though! |

I hear what you are saying. The thing is worrying about Meszaros right now is like worrying about a hangnail, when your throat has been slit.
This team has to start putting the puck in the net. |

Agreed -- with the lineup they iced Saturday, I think, repeat, think, they might be able to score some at even strength. Yeah, they might be a little looser at 5v5, but I'll take them trading chances right now because at least that means they'll be getting some.

Berube has also been pretty clear about establishing a system more defensive in nature than what Laviolette had.
I just think it's way too early to see what kind of team this will be under Berube. |

Raffl and Mcginn brought energy and did some nice things. Hopefully they can continue to play well. Add Lecavalier back in next week and maybe they will start generating some offense.
6 games of 2 goals or less is becoming a trend. |

A 7th dman with a 5.2 million dollar cap hit? I'm looking forward to the third and fourth years of Streit's deal. Should be a hoot. - PLindbergh31
How Homer is still allowed to sign anybody to a deal longer than 3-years is beyond me.
Snider really must love to throw good money after bad when it comes to his baby -- paying guys big $ to get rid of them, paying guys big $ to eat popcorn, paying guys big $ to play for the Phantoms, paying guys big $ that are essentialy retired, signing guys left and right to huge $ deals and then having to trade those quality players partly b/c of said deals, etc.
It's like monopoly money.

That's the skinny of it, this team won't have much of a chance if they're only scoring one goal, two on a good night, per game. |

Still... struggling, old, slow Kimmo >>>> anybody else on the Flyers D.
We're not talking about putting Desjardins to pasture because we've got Kim Johnsson and Joni Pitkanen ready to go in the stable... there's literally nobody capable to pick up the slack on this team. Some guys might be able to do it on one side of the puck or another, but not both. |

Your move, Dallas Eakins.

I've talked about it before. It's the dumbing-down of the game. Turn Pavel Bure Jr. into Daniel Cleary, and call it coaching.

Spending the money doesn't bother me and frankly, it shouldn't bother anyone else either that claims to be a Flyers fan.
Not spending cap resources wisely, however, in the framework of an actual philosophy of how you want to play is the real problem. |

Agreed. Knowing full well that +/- is not a popular stat but, Kimmo is +1 on this awful team. I think people only notice his mistakes. Sure he is slower and his skills are in decline but he is easily one of the top d-men on this team. |
