Off topic, but anyone see this quote from Nail Yakupov?
Your move, Dallas Eakins.

Nice for Edmonton to have four wingers they rate higher than Yakupov. Maybe we could try and pry Eberle away from them. |

Our PP is bad enough if we bench Streit were getting shorties against on that 2nd unit. - Just5
I don't think streit would get sat before mesz. He hasn't been bad IMO. If the 5 on 5 play improves and we sort our special teams out we may actually start winning a game or 2. Lol |

How Homer is still allowed to sign anybody to a deal longer than 3-years is beyond me.
Snider really must love to throw good money after bad when it comes to his baby -- paying guys big $ to get rid of them, paying guys big $ to eat popcorn, paying guys big $ to play for the Phantoms, paying guys big $ that are essentialy retired, signing guys left and right to huge $ deals and then having to trade those quality players partly b/c of said deals, etc.
It's like monopoly money. - Tomahawk
holmgren has proven to be one of the top GMs in the NHL. the flyers absolutely have the talent to be a plyoff team....

Agreed. Knowing full well that +/- is not a popular stat but, Kimmo is +1 on this awful team. I think people only notice his mistakes. Sure he is slower and his skills are in decline but he is easily one of the top d-men on this team. - fnmjoe13
I just want him off the powerplay. Maybe if he got some rest there he would have more energy for ES and PK. |

Spending the money doesn't bother me and frankly, it shouldn't bother anyone else either that claims to be a Flyers fan.
Not spending cap resources wisely, however, in the framework of an actual philosophy of how you want to play is the real problem. - johndewar
Yeah, it's all about spending smartly, and as Homer's track record has shown, he very often doesn't. |

Regardless, probably not the brightest thing for the kid to say out loud. - johndewar
True, but as always, not only is he a kid, but he's a kid from a foreign culture, being told to do something in a way in which he's never done it, while deviating from the things that have made him successful.
I'd be frustrated, too.

For anyone to be judging Berube after a whopping 3 games is just ridiculous. - BiggE
I gotta agree.
I recall it taking Lemaire about 10 games or so (back in 2010/11) to turn that dreadful Devils team around and they nearly made the playoffs.
A coach can't turn a team around instantly. If we don't start seeing a light at the end of the tunnel after the next 10 games or so then it's time to make some big changes. |

That's my problem more than anything.
I love that Ed Snider has proven he will make resources available to do whatever it takes to win. That's admirable and every team's fans want an owner that does that.
What we don't want is spending those money in such a way that you don't allow flexibility or you simply paint yourself into a corner.
Or worse.....spend it on pieces that don't fit. We'll see if Berube can somehow make these pieces fit. |

The idea is to use Streit as a PP/O-zone specialist (he's the 7th D) or give him 4th line forward minutes (he's done it before in MTL). We know that Mez isn't great in his own zone, but Streit is exponentially worse. Transition-wise, Mez and Streit are a wash at this point. It's only in the o-zone that Streit has an advantage over Mez. |

That premature Cup run was not a good thing to happen to this team in retrospect... they were lulled into thinking that they were only a step away from winning the prize, instead of stepping back and realizing that they were a team that literally sneaked into the PO's and rode a sequence of very favorable matchups and hot goaltending to the Cup Finals.
In reality, they were really never that close, but kept making moves/signings with a mind that it was within their grasp. |

They have him on the checking line which is ridiculous. I think Yakupov is exactly what this team needs : an elite sniper to play with Giroux. He can't possibly back check worst than Briere or some of the current players. |

You guys finally willing to move Couter ? that's what it's likely to cost yea even if he is falling out of favor with Eakins they simply won't give him away because it's not that big of a problem/issue. |

Actually, they were very close and had two very strong regular seasons after that Cup run. They squeaked into the playoffs because the team started off so poorly it had to make a coaching and total system change during the season.
They just needed to stick with Bob and get him a real backup like Vokoun. |

That team was not ready to beat a team like Chicago that was really on the cusp developmentally... the Flyers were a half-rebuilt team with a ton of good fortune and a never say die attitude. If they had finished that rebuild the following seasons, and kept that identity and retained all the experience as a team, they would have been a juggernaut in short order.
Instead, we have a team built on a shaky foundation that's collapsing in on itself. |

Probably not because they usually enjoy getting that playoff gate receipt money.

Swap the goalies, the 3rd D pairs, and the bottom-six forward lines and they would have beaten Chicago in 6.
IMO, the team in 97 that got swept was much much closer, and it's a pity they didn't come close after that.
The team in 10 were Cinderellas. |

If you swap Gretzky and Ron Sutter, Flyers beat Oilers in 5. |
