We don't need another Lefthander regardless, even if we trade Gardiner....already have Phaneuf, Gunnarsson, Rielly, Fraser, Ranger, Brennan, Liles....we need to trade for 2 more righthanded defenseman.....preferably keeping Phaneuf, Rielly, Fraser as our lefties.....Niskanen, Franson, Larsson as our righties.

I don't think Franson works much better with Rielly than Gardiner. I liked him best sheltered on the third pairing with Fraser (plus PP time).

The truth is that he's a mediocre defender who scores points. He'll get paid based on offensive production, which sucks.

If he weren't so valuable to us as a rightie, he'd be the best candidate for a trade. His return would be best and we could try to fill his spot with an actual defender.

Can't see Johnson being availabe considering the start that Colorado is off to.
Bogosian isn't going anywhere.
Hedman is the pivot of the Tampa D, so probably not up for grabs either.

I think the Schenn experiment failed here.

Well it won't be too difficult to resign Fraser......Niskanen is an all around good defenseman, able to move the puck, pass the puck tape to tape, skate fast, put up points and at the same time play sound defense. Phaneuf needs to play with another defenseman that is the one moving the puck...so Phaneuf can sit back, not rush the puck, make less mistakes, more hits, better defense....

Schenns value is at an all time low but i cant see flyers moving him while they just got him from us and his brother is there. If anything flyers would package the schenn bros together in a trade for something substantial. Myers and Gudbranson would be our best bet at targeting

He certainly doesn't help Phaneuf, but he doesn't hinder him, either.

He's an ideal second pairing guy. If we could ever land a proper #2, moving Gunnar to the second pairing would really stabilize the D.

A "decent defender who logs big minutes" already puts him second on our depth chart.

Is it not concerning to any Leafs fans that Nonis and other management don't see the value in analytical work?

I mean lots of other NHL teams are using it...shot attempts, quality of competetion, zone starts...

You may agree/disagree with these concepts but wouldn't you want your NHL team not falling behind others NHL teams? Better to do the work and reach a conclusion, rather than do nothing.
