They win tonight, they move up to 5th in the division. With an "easy" (winnable is probably a better word) schedule next week, they could be right up there with Pittsburgh and Washington next weekend.
Pretty impressed with the Chief and the decisions he's made. The line combos seem to be balanced and gaining confidence, along with chemistry with each other.
Glad the boat is a little lighter from all those "we'll get em next year" fans jumping ship, looks like we're beginning to cruise now |

4 in a row would look good coming home after tonight. Another 60 minute effort should do it.
Bill, you might want to flip Emery and Mason in the projected lineups, considering your prediction of Mason getting the start. |

The Flyers never seem to have boring games against this team. |

Bill hit the nail on the head, this has trap game written all over it. To be successful tonight, they will need a big game from their top line and Mason will need to continue his stellar play.
It would also be helpful to score early and force the Jets to play from behind. Not only do you expend less energy playing with a lead. but it will force the Jets to press and lead to odd mAn rushes for the Flyers.
Either way its Friday night and I've got Flyers hockey and some fine single malt, life is good indeed!! |

It's a shame Trouba's out. I was really looking forward to seeing him play. |

Winnipeg at home is usually a tough nut to crack...and the Jets & Flyers have had some strange get togethers over the years. Always seems like something strange happens. - Jsaquella
Either gonna be 9-8 loss despite JvR and Ville Leino lighting it up, or 2-1 with Brian Boucher stealing a win. |

Yep. Or Pronger's last NHL game, or Steve Mason's Flyers debut after Bryz got beat 4 times in 40 minutes...It's just always something odd when these two teams run into one another. |

I guess, it's the last chance to exploit the bad Flyers start and offer Mason some "poor" contract. It will be much more complicated once he gets his Vezina Trophy and with the cup under his belt |

I think the Flyers playoff hopes were finally extinguished in that game against Winnipeg last season when Luke Schenn got hit in the visor by a puck and had to leave the ice for a while. The Flyers defense collapsed without him and gave up four goals in seven minutes.

Speaking of four goals, it sure would be nice if Giroux could have a Seguin-type game tonight. |

I'd settle for a Benn-type game. I'm not picky. |

I don't think most teams/people like Talbot for his dynamic offensive talents, yet he still has just as many goals as Downie does. Not saying it's a bad trade necessarily, but it's not like we totally fleeced Colorado. |

Lava's style always seemed to play right into the hands of these guys. Lets see what happens if we can clamp down on them with some tighter checking. |

Slow day so far. I had a question burning a hole in my head at 5:45 AM: Was Rocky IV better than III?
Okay, so to start, they're both bad, but not worse than Rocky V, by far the worst of the series. They both have the death of a main character, and actually feature a pretty good villian. So, let's look at what they can offer:
Rocky III:
Clubber Lang is basically Mike Tyson on steroids. He's a good villian and is an absolute terror in the ring.
Mick dies.
Apollo and Rocky share the staple 80's homo-erotic scene as the frolic in the water and hug in short shorts in slow motion.
Apollo gives Rocky his old colors and helps him annihilate Clubber Lang.
Rocky IV:
Apollo dies during a match vs. Ivan Drago. The match is preceeded by the most insane pre-fight entrance ever.
Rocky undergoes the most manly, most copied training montage of all time.
Rocky beats the unbeatable machine.
Rocky ends the Cold War.
For my money, I'll take Rocky IV, if only for the training montage. Thoughts? |

As the old cliche goes...you need to have the right players to play a certain system.
Also you need to have a coach that knows how to switch up his systems when it's needed.
A good defense makes for a good offense. |

Should be a Physical game. Winnipeg has a big team that can engage in the rough stuff and some bigger skilled guys that are hard to lean on. I loved a game between them and the Leafs season when that Holzer guy tried to fight Kane and Bogo flew in and just dusted him before he even knew what was happening |
