I think all of those guys are considerably better at D than Buff. I'd love to have him, and he'd be our best Dman, but I just think we could get better with Coots, Voracek, and Coburn.
- JAKEw1234

All those guys are high-risk/high-reward types of players... Karlsson and Coffee are just as liable to be freelancing and leading the rush as to be conscious of being in defensive position... and Therrien was benching Subban in 3rd-periods not too long ago. Brian Leetch, Mike Green, Sergei Gonchar, etc were also #1 dmen that often walked a fine line.

So yeah, I don't think just being high-risk should preclude Byfuglien from #1 status... especially when the rest of his toolbox is All-Star caliber, and he's so darned consistent with his level of production.

Of course, not saying he's a fit on the Flyers, but he gets sold shorter than any other dman in the league by fans.

Solid post overall, Green and Gonchar shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence as Leetch. Leech was extremely offensively gifted but also had an extremely high hockey IQ. Green is a disgrace defensively and Gonchar was average at best defensively at his best.
It is on this basis why I don't like Buff. For all his positive attributes, some have questioned his dedication and discipline, I simply don't like his decision making and Hockey IQ on a whole.

Can you give a quarter pole update on Morin? How's he looked?

If I recall Jerome Berbue he's gotten much better as the season has gone along, missing time with his hand injury slowed him a bit.

Not sure, but it's 4-0 now with 2 PP goals and 16 shots in the 2nd period alone. bryz is going to implode up there.

Morin ejected from the game for leaving the bench during a fight (I did not see it).

I really have to question if you ever actually saw Paul Coffey...because he was a (frank)ing horrible defensive player. He made Nik Zherdev look like Bob Gainey.

From what I've read, the Q did away with the automatic 10 game suspension for doing that, I'd imagine some suspension will happen.

I sort of recall them dumping the automatic, but I;d still expect him to get a few games as a vacation, regardless

Conversely, Berube has sure embraced using Couturier properly and with linemates that can help his offensive skills shine. Lavi rarely gave Couts talented wingers -- and never consistently.
