Its getting hard to get up for these games Bill, as I just see the Flyers right now as a mediocre team. Not good enough to contend, but not bad enough to get a top 5 pick and really rebuild.

Yup, they're right in that sweet-spot called 'Average'.
Hopefully G leads by example today and the Flyers work a nice win.
Changing the subject, Weber is one tough bastard.

Hey Bill,
I realize that it is still a little early in the season, but from what I have seen from this season, and last season is a .500 team. They are not consistent, and I get the feeling that they will not make the playoffs again. In the Florida, and Tampa games, I saw the return to the same old bad habits. First, there was no one going to the net, and they were outworked along the boards. Many times, I witnessed the forwards waiting for the puck to come to them, rather than going to the puck. I don't know if it's being lazy or content that they worked their way back to .500 hockey. In addition, that play carries over to taking too many penalties; if you don't keep your skates moving, then something bad will eventually happen.
Second, the shot totals were down again. As mentioned by the CSN guys, it is a one shot deal once they enter into the offensive zone. Why G is still hesitant to shoot is beyond me. The players seem more interested in making blind passes, or high risk passes. Shoot the puck you dopes, and quit playing hot potato.
Third, I am surprised that there are very few leaders on this team. Vinny, and Kimmo are the only ones that I see that have any leadership qualities. Why not strip Hartz's A, and give it to Vinny? I realize that G won't have his C stripped, so at least give Vinny a chance to do something.
Anyway, what is your prediction on how the Flyers will finish the season? Will Homer be back?
Thanks Bill. |

For me, Bobby Clarke is the gold standard for being a bad ass after taking a puck to the head:

Whats the point, VL can be a leader without a letter on his shirt and I don't see that helping Hartnell's game in any way. |

the lack of hustle & drive is getting to me, I was so pumped when we hit 500, & to drop 2 in Florida "sleep skating"? |

Just took a long look at the Flyers upcoming schedule. Of the next 18 games, 13 are on the road, 11 against the West and there are 3 sets of back to backs.
Realistically, the best I can see them doing is: 8-8-2, the worst would be 4-12-2
So let's call it down the middle and say they go 6-10-2. That would leave them at 16-22-4, 36pts in 42 games and at best maybe 6th in the division.
I just don't think the next 6 weeks are going to be a lot of fun for us.

Absolutely, when teammates see the top 2 players on the club, Giroux and Voracek, not hustling, what kind of message do you think that sends?

Seems like a lot of games even in the Lavvy era ( does the phrase timeout in first period ring a bell) and perhaps before.
Those Florida games the team was like a family going to sleep in the barcoloungers to watch football after a big turkey dinner.
Yeah, turkeys
So if G was on his 8.5 mil contract at 82 games (not counting preseason)
he would have been paid $103,658.54 for each of those stellar efforts.

We have an average team with most of our core players forgetting how to play.
Hartnells extension looks worse and worse by the day. Giroux is a passenger instead of the pilot. If we didn't get Vinny I can only imagine how bad we would be. |

OOOps, Jake would be $42,682.93 per game on his current contract. |

its a shame that everything he does will be magnified now by that contract, (I guess thats how it works when they gave it to him).
But the lack of spirit & consistency is spread throughout |

I guess the month of December will be telling to see what direction they go, a lot of teams hovering around that 500 mark, (the East is pretty competitive)
its also a shame they are wasting all the work Mason is putting in |

I know its early but Poulin wan't the ex-islander in net for the Jets it was Al Montoya.
If it makes you Flyer fans any happier we are an hour ahead here in Winnipeg meaning a 10:30 start.
Buff gets angry when he gets up this early. He's gonna be a beast today. Trust me - he is going to single handedly take your guys down |

I think his wrist injury golfing really hampered him from the get go. I don't think he's 100% yet, although a wrist injury shouldn't be affecting his skating so its not all the injury. |
