The Bruins contest should leave a bad taste in this team's mouth for awhile. They were flat and got pushed around for the entire match. Nice rebound yesterday, in a unique contest, and it was especially great to see Kreider stick it to Tortorella.
Talbot continues to impress. |

Jan Levine: A Split Weekend for the Rangers: The Only Constant is Inconsistency
Elevator up and down for the weekend... - airjan23
Good write up Jan. Kreider was just pure beast like yesterday, it is so refreshing to see one of our own come into they're own like he is right now, the skill, the speed, the tenacity he's playing with.
I also agree with you with what you said about the team needing to address the toughness aspect. It seems for years now they have been getting disrespected by opponents, but this weekend it was so glaring. First the Bs just swatting the Rangers away like flies on Friday, Chara, Lucic, Thornton, others throwing they're weight around without any hesitation. But yesterday was just ugly with that caveman Sestito mocking the Rangers bench. Glad Dorsett went with him & did well but he is the only player really willing (or you would want) to fight & it will continue to come up as the year goes on. Don't think other teams didn't take notice of that. |

Not really. I actually and still am a Tortorella supporter. Based upon what we have seen to date, not a big stretch to see he played the style that was most effective for the squad he had. |

No doubt & not on the train either that it was Torts who ruined or tried to ruin Kreider. The kid was not in the best of shape after the lockout last yr & was struggling in Hartford before Torts got his hands on him in January. The fact that he again looked timid in camp under a new Coach showed maybe it was Chris Kreider who needed to change & change he has. The kid has grabbed a spot on the top line now & may never again give it up. |

I think not making the team, out of training camp this fall, really motivated Kreider.
It looks like he realizes that he has to work hard and play a certain way to be successful. Success came easy to this kid, throughout his amateur playing days, and it seemed he wasn't ready/mature enough to put in the work required to be a good professional player.
Well, fast forward to December 1st, it certainly looks like Kreider is putting in the work. |

I loved it, not because I dislike Tortorella, more because it's nice to see the team play with fire. Playing their old coach and playing for their new coach, who was going up against his old team, gave them a little extra spark yesterday.
Maybe the spark also came from Vigneault's disgust, to the media, after their tough loss to the Bruins. Who knows, but yesterday is a nice blueprint on how they need to play in order to be more than just a .500 hockey team. |

Very true about the lack of a tough guy. Problem is they can't afford to
Shove a no skill fighter into the lineup -wouldnt want them to anyway.
Finding skill guys who can also stand up for teammates is not so
Easy and one of the things I liked about Dubi. Good players like chara
Lucic and even Thornton who fill important roles but also provide
Toughness. Dorset could be one of a group but he's too small to do
It alone. Feel bad for Boyle as he is at least trying -he's just not a fighter
At all. That's why I would play asham over Pyatt any day.

asham at 35 is no heavyweight champion either though. he would more often than not get rocked by the young beasts of today.
mcilrath is oh so close |

I gotta when Kreider cam back from Hartford I never though he would legitimately throw his name into the Calder race. After October is was really a two man race between Hertl and Mackinnon. At what point do people outside this area mention Kreider? |

True about asham -hes not the sole answer but would
Help; he could have a go at
Guys like bieksa and at least spare us all the
Humiliation of watching Boyle get pummeled by
A guy a foot shorter than himself. Not to mention
I'd rather have him in there than Pyatt or
Pouliot. |

Don't care if he goes ignored by the rest of the league all year as long as he keeps playing well. |

When I watched replays of the game Boyle still had his right glove on after the fight with bieksa. Not guna win many like that, I think he wants to push and shove but not actually fight |

They'll start to mention him but because he's a Ranger they'll never mention his name without mentioning that he played parts of last season and the playoffs 2 years ago, he's a legit Calder finalist |

And that's all that matters. Just like when someone comes in (not so much anymore)TO THE LEAGUE from another country at an older age or just someone who does not for whatever reason break into the NHL at a young age..if they are a rookie by definition, they're a rookie, eligible for the Calder. |
