Matt Karash: Carolina Hurricanes Game Day: @Calgary - Need to get back to the right way

1. For starters put Peter's back in net as Imo the team starts flat with Ward in goal more often than not like they are expecting to coast and let Cam bail them out ,and with Peter's they have to come out fast ,and Ward Imo isn't over the Groin issue fully because he sure isn't playing well.

3.In the close games like the last 2 1g games...Yeah Vancouver game was a EN 2g game ,anyway If Semin & Bowman are both back that will give the team he extra scoring ,and defensive lines that can keep Calgary from getting any momentum going in a game the Canes should win ,but Calgary is tied with the Canes in SHG with 5 I think which leads the NHL ,so playing smart on ST is key.

4.I'm glad for even a 9pm start as this week has been a struggle with the late starts. The trade JR is rumored to be attempting needs to happen sooner than later ,and in one of the trade blogs he had cooled the trade talk abit with the 3 game win streak ,BUT that's over ,and the team is back to it's inconsistent ways again...Gotta have a 3rd line center JR you just can't weasel outta that as anybody can read out line combo's and there it is Riley Nash as the 3rd line center as clear as a ruby in a Goats arse!..Now If we had Brandon Sutter back oh the possibility's.

The Skinner- Staal- Semin line scares me a bit. Is anyone on that line going to push the pace and get the puck in the corners. I understand that when they have the puck they will be dynamite, but what about when they dont, or are in the d zone?

The downside is that the 2 years remaining are not cheap at $6M+, and there is some risk in betting that he gets back top form. Because of how he is playing right now and the fact that Miller is still sitting out there too, I don't think he yields a king's ransom. I still think he is worth a good player in return (not some random collection of picks/prospects). The wild trade I tossed out a couple weeks ago was Ward for Nugent-Hopkins. My point was not so much that Nugent-Hopkins was the guy or this was the trade. My point was more that I think Cam Ward could logically be on the table. I do not remember reading many, if any, people saying that before my blog on Dec 2, but it seems to have become trendy since. Ward's start Tuesday did not help, but I think he could be a good fit for Edmonton. The Oilers have been rebuilding for forever, have assembled a good bunch of talent but are still stuck in the NHL cellar. I think the franchise is nearing the point where it is running out of patience and will need to move aggressively to fix the holes to try to win. I think a clear requirement for a goalie add would be experience and ability to handle pressure because once the Oilers make a big move in net, people are going to expect this guy to be the savior that leads the team to the playoffs which is a lot to ask. Whether Ward will get back to form or not is a debatable topic, but I do not think there is any doubt that he can handle pressure when going well. There would still be work to be done on defense, but that might be addressed next summer.

I agree on trading Ward while his value is high ,If he continues to struggle into next season then were stuck for 2 more years with his contract ,and if JR can get a forward like RNH I would pull the trigger ,or even David Perron ,and a high pick/Prospect which would give the team cap space to add to the team this year ,and by moving Cam and Gleason's contract you could add value and add cap space which in this year would make the Canes a real contender in the East for now ,and years to come. There will be doubter's who say you can do a lot worse than Ward ,but his current woe's and struggles in the SO plus his $6.3m contract make this the time to move him ,and to EDM yes a perfect fit he goes home to play ,and EDM get's there long term goalie.
