The NHL is milking the poop out of the outdoor games, they have no meaning or spectacle anymore. Its a shame that all it is now is a cash grab - OilersFan1985
Which one is the "classic"? Or are they all classics? |

Nothing against either team but i have had enough of these gimmick games - Crushers68
Agreed. No interest in these any longer.
I'm only holding out hope that one of these games gets hit with a torrential rain.

Just a suggestion, so don't get too excited.
How about a WC for each time zone, and rename it The WINTER CLASSICS. That way, the NHL will be forced to pick a variety of teams, and get rid of the over exposure from 900 outdoor games. Then, to be really exciting, put one of the games back on ESPN...lol.
Just a suggestion. No throwing rocks or spitting in your hand before you shake mine.... |

Why is everyone so surprised? The Winter Classic has been a money grab from day one and in order for that to work they need ratings. People are throwing out names like Colorado, Minnesota, St. Louis; aside from hardcore hockey fans who the hell is going to watch that? It's always going to be big, traditional hockey markets, and with the exception of Chicago, that means Eastern teams. Get used to it. - Jeffmt
I haven't watched any Winter Classic because of the teams playing in it. |

Just boycott watching until there are different teams. About the only way things are going to change.
St. Louis already had being part of the "outdoor series" discussed with them, they said they want the Winter Classic or nothing. Armstrong discussed that months ago. No idea if that will change, obviously. |

No he's right. Eventually people will get fed up of the NBC wheel deciding who plays in these games. Because it will start getting tough to attract tv viewers when it's Caps v. Pens IV: This time it's personal. Live from PNC Park!

ok and then they will bow to the powerful HB-led boycott and put on Minny vs Carolina and still get zero ratings

Its classic because only the same 6 or 8 teams get to play. |

That is just is a silly match up to begin with. Of course this is easy for you because you don't mind your team being force fed to everyone so they can be in an outdoor game every three years. |

couldnt care less, tbh. It was cool to be in one, sure but beyond that, i agree its overkill.
id like to see a game with small market teams, but i also understand the concept of "no buys" |

Who said it had to be two small market teams? Here's an idea: make it teams that are decent. Have it be a rematch from the Stanley Cup Finals. Or pick a historic rivalry from two playoff teams.
People don't want to see teams a third time when over 70% of the league hasn't been in it once. The NHL just wants it to be the large market east coast teams classic, fine. Just don't expect people to keep tuning in. |
