Not to be qualitative, but good for Nate Guenin. He is a pretty nice guy and it is good to see he has latched on with a class organization.

With Foote and "The Bear" teaching him as well it is a very good situation for him. With Hejda getting older and Sarich possibly not lasting past this year it is good to have him signed as insurance.

Awesome for all the Avs who made their countries respective Olympic teams. Especially Matt Duchene, really speaks volume to his work and desire to be a better player over his young NHL career. He is still only 22. Definitely has experienced some up and downs and I'm sure this is one of his highest peaks. Team Canada is a hard team to make. He impressed some great hockey minds. He deserves it though. Good on him.

On the flip side, I still find it hard to believe given his play this year, Eric Johnson doesn't make the US team. He's playing against the top players every night and in a shut down role and still, his 7 goals are right up there with league leaders of defencemen. He also played a huge role in the 10 silver medal Olympic team. Anyone who has watched the Avs this season has seen the consistent play of him. He's been a anchor all season, his play has been a big reason for the turn around. Really a shame they left him out.

Also, how is Jan Hejda not on the Czech team.

Here hoping Stastny has a great Olympic increasing his trade value come deadline

I am hoping to see Stastny between Kessel and JVR. Not only would it be a solid line but I think it would hype up stastny big time, that is if the avs want to trade him. If they want to resign him then lets hope he plays a shut down role on the pk

Ottawa Sun was reporting that we have yet to have contract talks with him and Stastny might be gearing up to test the open market. Mentioned that the Avs are asking a return of a 1st rounder and a roster player as a return.

Very true, sticking him between two big names, from the biggest hockey market, on the Olympic stage, definitely would get him out there and his play noticed. Especially if he plays really well. I know we're in the playoffs at this point, and he would help the push and in the playoffs. Long term, I just don't think he fits.

Him and Kessel would look good.

Interesting return, I thought we were done rebuilding! That roster player better be a top 4 left handed 2way pmd then.

I would rather get a Winger, then use the other 1st at the draft to trade for a RFA Dman

lots of interesting ones on the market (Gudbranson, Erixon, de Haan, Ellis, Gardiner) just to name a few. Maybe teams are desperate and need to get a 1st rounder back or like a player in the draft too much and are willing to move a pending RFA.

The sun suggested that a 1st might be what it takes but doesn't say anything about what the Avs are asking for. Also it isnt to surprising that contract talks haven't started yet as it is still only half way into the season.

A shoot first winger would be a good addition. It sort of depends on if we keep orielly at wing even after stastny moves on. Duchene mackinnon landeskog parenteau tanguay in our top 6 signed through next year. Mackinnon stays at wing? Orielly at center? If we move stastny I'm assuming we keep orielly, not sure any of those would be suited in a bottom 6 role. Maybe orielly. But I think he's proven he fits into the top 6.

I just don't like the d outside of Johnson and Hejda. And Barrie's improving. We're winning playing our system, off our offence, and varly. Not with the talent of our d.

You would never have to give away a 1st for an RFA dman unless they were someone substantial but overall its unrealistic.

The only thing that would be important for the trade of stastny would be a young promising player that would have a long term role for the team (that isnt a center). Then we can figure out the rest from there.

Its not like the Avs are only missing one piece, there is still plenty of room for improvement, but if you are going to get rid of stastny then you had better get something worth while in return because that would be a bigger loss to this team than some people realize.

I read it on the fourth period and they were mentioing the Sun Article.
http://www.thefourthperiod.com/news/col140105.html

This is the line from their report
"According to the paper, if the Avalanche can acquire a first-round draft pick and a player in exchange for Stastny by the March 5 trade deadline, they'll likely move him."

I look at the Runblad trade a few drafts ago as a precedent, he wasnt a RFA but he just signed his ELC with St. Louis and Ott traded a first round pick for him instead (which ended up becoming Tarasenko).

I know you are moving a 1st for a prospect Dman in this scenerio but I think there is something in acquiring a young promising Dman in this manner as well.

If we do that for anyone, I hope it's Gormley... Sgarbossa + 1st for Gormley would be perfect.

No just mean that he is an RFA as an example, some teams might Value Drafting Player "A" this year if still available versus resigning the RFA Player "B".

Or the RFA player might want too much money, etc and the teams hand is forced to trade them. I just used his name an exampls of all the good young RFA dman that are coming up this summer

That wuold be a good haul, I have feeling we might have to do a little more than Sgarbossa to do that though, Gormley is a stud but just think he might not get the chance to hit the every day lineup in Phoenix with so many good dman in their system
